This post was deleted for the following reason: there's an existing open thread about this. If there's going to be a new "this is the news about Egypt" thread, we'll probably need it to be more of a "what's been going on" sort of thing Please post this in the open thread -- jessamyn
I think the question of 'Is-a-revolution-at-hand' is past.

Hopefully this one will turn out better than the Iranian one.

I've been watching al jazeera English all day and I still can't quite shake the feeling that I've done something vaguely illegal.

*sigh*. During the Iranian revolution, I was living in France and had access to Al Jazeera English (and France24 in English, French, and Arabic…and BBC Int'l). Although things certainly did not turn out well there, I was immensely thankful to have access to such in-depth and non-stupid coverage. I learned more about Iranian history and Mideast-sphere politics over those couple of weeks than all my years watching CNN and the like. They also had truly impressive reporter penetration, even in conflict zones. I was in that same apartment during the Mumbai massacre and the 2008-9 Gaza War; during those conflicts as well as during the Green Revolution in Iran, they had people reporting with details and insight that no other network had.
I really miss that channel.

Is there really a revolution going on in Egypt? Maybe Mubarak will fall (he's already dismissed his cabinet), but it's no sure thing. And if he does fall, is it really a revolution if the army takes over? The one thing I took away from the article linked to in this post was the photo at the top of protesters waving Egyptian flags in front of a tank. Seems likely that the army is waiting in the wings.
And if there is a bona fide revolution, what then? Half the population is under 30. A developed economy would be unable to create jobs fast enough for this demographic, let alone Egypt (or Pakistan or Iran or any number of countries teetering on the brink of "revolution").
