The Arcade Fire won the Album of the Year award for The Suburbs at the Grammys. This left some people bewildered. [single-link subtle mockery tumblr post]
This post was deleted for the following reason: The existence of a tumblr blog devoted specifically to aggregating noisy grumping for a recent event is kind of amusing but maybe not really post-worthy amusing. -- cortex
Wow. "Your favorite band sucks" overtakes the twittersphere.

I was wondering... If someone else had won, would they have played the last song instead? Or would Arcade Fire have lost, and then had to play the show out?

To be fair, I had no idea that a band called Lady Antebellum existed until last night, so we are all ignorant, just in different ways. Then again I didn't feel the need to broadcast my lack of knowledge on Twitter.

Never heard of them. That doesn't mean they don't deserve to win Album of the Year. I'm quite musically clueless lately. So party on, dudes.

I think awards should only go to things that live with me here under my rock.
Arcade Fire, whatever. That Grammy should totally have gone to this handful of grubs.

I was just shocked when Muse won Best Rock Album over a bunch of rock legends (Pearl Jam, Jeff Beck, Tom Petty and Neil Young).

This reminds me of the year (2000? 2001?) that Steely Dan won a Grammy. I was in high school and I actually liked Steely Dan but otherwise generally ignored the current music industry. Someone I knew who was of the "Top 40 and nothing else" music bent was talking to me about the awards ceremony mentioned, "...and, like, this group - I don't even know who they are? Stanley Dan? Yeah, they won and I have, like no idea who these old people are. Stanley Dan? Who are they?"

I'm with you MegoSteve, Ignorance and Pride did not deserve to win Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals

Neat to read that Esperanza Spalding won (though Justin Bieber fans didn't think so). If anyone hasn't heard this album yet, you're in for a treat.

I know who Arcade Fire is, but I literally could not identify one of their songs if you held a gun to my head. Something something undifferentiated skinny white people music.

I think the last time I paid attention to the Grammys was around the time Jethro Tull beat out Metallica for Best Hard Rock Album.

I nominated Fuck the Grammys but, sadly, they didn't win.
Woulda been pretty funny, though.

Terry Gilliam directed Arcade Fire during their Madison Square Garden concert. It is awesome, please watch.
