A Manifesto . . . Crap, PERSONIFESTO . . . for Conscious Men

Not long ago, Gay Hendricks and Arjuna Ardegh penned A Manifesto for Conscious Men. It apologized on behalf of the male gender for a litany of very real wrongs men have done to women. The apology was also tendered on behalf of dead men, and on behalf who didn't apologize because they "they remain shackled in a prison of anger, fear and shame." Apart from the apparent wrongs men have visited directly on women, men pretty much copped a plea for the horrors wrought by centuries of religion, environmental degradation, an incapacity for feeling and fixation on logic, lust and commercialization of sex, war-making leaders, greed and a lack of compassion, and so forth. Fair enough. Backpedaling slightly, the conscious man acknowledged that men felt hurt by women, albeit for reasons that seemed unclear, then proclaimed "I forgive you for any ways you may have acted unconsciously, as I forgive myself and my gender for our own waking sleep.. . . I vow to treat your heart as the sacred temple it is, and I commit to honoring the feminine in you and me and in my relationship to all life. . . . Together, we can make miracles." Some people were pretty into this, and it has now attracted famous supporters. Can we hope that the waking sleep has ended?

This post was deleted for the following reason: We kind of had this thread already without the weird inverted framing and the Will Ferrell coda, this feels like it's trying kind of hard to Be Something for no particularly great reason. -- cortex

Now I'm too busy laughing at Will Ferrell and his brilliantly overwrought facial expressions to even take any of this seriously. So...um, yeah. Double what.

The creepy tropical outdoor scene and them wearing polo shirts is killing me.

Without stating the obvious, this is stupid.

As a man, I honor your deep connection to the earth.

Anti-sexism fail.

I'd mock this, but it's too easy. (Also, while deeply, deeply stupid they've got good intentions.)

If this is conscious, I'll remain unconscious, thank you.

Well, I think I speak for all of us, when I pen a manifesto and wear a polo shirt.

Put another way, its really, really important to treat the actual people around you really, really well. Apologizing for the wrong doing of men you never met, who existed before you were born? Waaaay lower down the list.

Your horrors wrought by men links all seem to go to women. I take it you disagree with the idea behind the FPP, OP?

The original video is ridiculous enough. I like Will Ferell and all, but the satire is completely unnecessary.

How are men responsible for the "incapacity for feeling and fixation on logic" of Ayn Rand? Or the "greed and a lack of compassion" of Hetty Green? Are these personality defects argued to be the product of widespread male dominion? Beyond the tertiary effects of their development within a corrupting institutional bias, these links do not seem to support the manifesto.

On preview, what stinkycheese said.

If the OP does indeed disagree with the FPP, then this post is framed in a questionably sarcastic, toungue-in-bloody-cheek sort of way.

If I've wronged anybody, I'll apologize for myself. I hope these two Dr. Phil wannabes sue each other for the right to be the biggest wet noodle on earth and are eternally cursed to lecture together in a middle school gymnasium with no air conditioning.
