Michele Bachmann, the HPV vaccine and the Republican landscape. Bachmann says vaccination against HPV leads to mental retardation. "I had a mother last night come up to me here in Tampa after the debate. She told me that her little daughter took that vaccine, that injection, and she suffered from mental retardation thereafter. It can have very dangerous side effects." A controversial topic. previously

This post was deleted for the following reason: This needs to be framed much differently from this if it's not just going to turn into "HURF DURF RETARDED BACHMAN" and if that's the conversation you want to have, please go elsewhere. Thank you. -- jessamyn

Obvious joke is obvious, so I'll just stop at saying that this whole thing makes me sad.

The problem, of course, is differentiating between suffering from mental retardation and simply being a Bachmann supporter.

When even Rush Limbaugh thinks you are an ignorant fucking twit, perhaps it is time to step back and take a good look at your life.

Well, my daughter had the HPV vaccine, and she makes straight As and is the captain of her highschool crew team. So that means the vaccine leads to academic and athletic achievement, right?

I dislike being a mean guy, but I simply do not give a crap for whatever Bachman has to say. I know that most people at this site lean strongly to the left, and it is fun to belittle tea party favorites, but she has proven herself mindless in so much of what I hear her say that shows up on cable tv and thus I am not about to be interested in yet one more piece of silliness.

I watched Michele Machmann speak, and suffered from mental retardation afterward. It can have very dangerous side effects.

TRUTH OUT.

The combination of picking data to fit the conclusion and anecdata is very powerful.

Bachman is obviously pissed that Rick Perry stole all the crazies who were going to be voting for her, so she's got to out crazy him. This is, however, pretty damn crazy.

I had the vaccine and a bird flew into my window yesterday. BE WARNED ABOUT THE CONSEQUENCES.

Looks like we can add "interest in preppy sports" to the list of side effects.

Correlation does not equal causation. The golden rule in regression analysis.

It’s a hot summer day. A little girl buys an ice cream cone. It starts to melt. She also notices before she started to lick the cone, she had to take out a piece of Wrigley’s gum. Her mother tells a politician that her daughters ice cream cone melted after she chewed gum. Politician that makes statement saying Wrigley’s gum causes ice cream cones to melt and is dangerous.

What is striking to me is nobody calls bullshit on the "story" about how after the debate a "mother" came up to her and tearfully told her story. Hell the press have been manhandled by her people for coming within 20 feet of her, yet somehow this mother with a story to tell, managed to tearfully tell it.

This is a prop, too good to be true. I want to see this person, and I'll bet some serious cash that this will be another Joe the plumber, yet nobody in the press will dare admit that.

See, here's the thing. She can disagree with Perry requiring the vaccine. I'm a mom; I'm annoyed all the time at things I'm required to do with my kids. That doesn't mean that I make the next conclusion that x-thing-i-didn't-like cause y-horrible-thing. That second leap just makes her look stupid, while the first thing could actually lead to something I could maybe get behind (i.e. the government shouldn't tell us to vaccinate our kids). The republican rhetoric is just so frightening. Frightening because it's clearly aimed at someone, a lot of someones. And, I mean..... seriously.
