What is it about owls that makes them like being petted? Seems like a strange trait for a bird to have.

What is it about owls that makes them like being petted? Seems like a strange trait for a bird to have.
Anything with fur or feathers has the chance of getting fleas, mites, and such-like at the base of the skull and so on. Being groomed there by a mom or mate feels nice.
