Florida woman "stands her ground" against abuser, gets 20 years

"On August 1 2010, my premature baby girl, born nine days earlier, was in the Baptist South N.I.C.U. fighting for her life and I would too be fighting for my life in my own home against an attack from my husband." Marissa Alexander's husband once beat her so badly she ended up in the hospital. After yet another assault and an unsuccessful attempt to escape her home, Alexander fired a warning shot — from a licensed weapon for which she held the permit — into her ceiling, scaring him off. She was subsequently arrested when he reported her to the police, and now sits in the Pretrial Detention Facility in Jacksonville, FL, Duval county awaiting a sentence of up to 20 years.

Not only did that page crash my browser, but also she's not in jail because she stood her ground. she's in jail because she's a black woman with a gun.
