This is impressive and majestic and man-vs.-nature as all getout, but what I really want to see is the HD super-slo-mo footage of the lone surfer cowering in the corner of his or her beach hut in fear. "Dude! I can't go out there! Have you seen it out there? The French Navy said it was too dangerous out there! THE. FRENCH. NAVY. I'm not going out there, no way man!! Too dangerous!!"

Is it a phantom camera or is Chris Bryan a phantom that operates cameras?

Double, I'm afraid.

A nicely made post though, and it was worth watching again.

Teahupoo, although I have never seen it in person, and likely never will, seems like it features the ENTIRE VOLUME OF OCEAN WATER ON EARTH behind each wave.

It seems like it defies the laws of physics and hydrology.

Fun fact about the pro contest held here every year: there are rookies (like this year's Gabriel Medina, from Brazil) who, while obviously very talented surfers as you can tell by the fact that they even qualified for the highest level of competition in the sport, have mostly made a name for themselves with technical tricks in small waves and have never surfed the pace before. That is, until they go out there on big days to compete against the world's best.
