Healthcare in Florida

Florida is suffering from the worst tuberculosis outbreak in recent US history - so it's time for Gov. Rick Scott (R) to shut down the only tuberculosis clinic. In related news, Scott is also refusing the largely federally-funded Medicaid expansion that would cover about a million poor people in the state with the third-highest percentage of uninsured.

I have no outrage left in me.

What Would Lex Luthor Do? (WWLLD?)

The intent behind not providing health insurance to the poor is to force them into low-paying jobs. A tuberculosis outbreak isn't bad news to a "fiscal conservative". It only means you can lower the minimum wage.

Lex Luthor would understand that we need a healthy population if we are going to defend ourselves from the Kryptonian menace. I'm pretty sure the Luthor Foundation would step in to help set up some sort of public/private prevention and care initiative.

But what was Scott thinking? According to the Palm Beach Post exposé, AG Holley's closure came after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had warned the governor and his state health office in a report that tuberculosis was making a big comeback in the state. That report apparently never made it from those state officials to legislators who had voted to close the TB hospital.
It made it into their wastepaper baskets, I'm thinking.
Guys, we just can't afford to spend money on keeping poor people alive. When they're alive, they make us uncomfortable. Why spend money on keeping them alive when I can spend money on making myself comfortable? ///me trying to understand.

I bet he and Scott Walker made a $1 bet over which one of them could be the biggest douchebag and ruin the most lives.

What else would you expect from a guy who wanted to privatize Medicaid? And incidentally used to be CEO of a healthcare provider?
