I Don't Like Mondays

A Massachusetts policeman faces dismissal for calling Red Sox outfielder Carl Crawford a "Monday" at a minor-league game in Manchester, NH. Finally, overpaid athletes and days of the week are safe from hate speech.

Off-duty and presumably inebriated, Leominster officer John Perrault allegedly yelled the word "Monday" at Crawford as the perpetually injured outfielder (basking in a rehab stint with the Portland Sea Dogs before returning to the Red Sox for another shot at playing three big league games in a row) signed autographs for fans who probably thought he was Pedro Ciriaco.

According to the Portland Press Herald:

Officer John Perrault was suspended pending a disciplinary hearing scheduled for next week at which he could face more severe punishment, and could even be fired, Leominster Mayor Dean Mazzarella and Police Chief Robert Healey said.

Perreault engaged in conduct unbecoming an officer, according to the chief and mayor.

“This is a tough enough world we all live in. Nobody wants to be subjected to that,’’ Mazzarella said at a press conference today at the Leominster emergency management facility. “This shouldn’t happen anywhere, not any baseball park, not anywhere.’’

The legacy of this hateful slur dates back all the way to 2008, when Russell Peters used it at the Def Comedy Jam. Since only fifteen people ever saw the 2008 Def Comedy Jam, the hateful slur remained largely unknown until Crawford complained about it.

For those of us not in the USA (and not biting the low hanging fruit of your last sentance), is there a certain number of times something must be uttered as a racial slur before it qualifies as an official racial slur?

Asking that question makes you a total Tuesday.

Obviously, Monday will never be the same.

Plutor: My great grandpa was a Soviet POW and spent time in a concentration camp. As such, I find your statement highly offensive!
