WARNING: this post is going to be oh-so-very-triggery for victims of rape and sexual assault. I am not kidding.

In the wake of comments this week from Indiana Republican candidate for US Senate Richard Mourdock that conception from rape "is what God intended," (a statement that earned "disagreement" but continued endorsement from Presidential candidate Mitt Romney) and Missouri Republican Senate candidate Todd Akin's comments in August concerning "legitimate rape," (previously), MeFi's own John Scalzi pens a satirical piece entitled "A Fan Letter to Certain Conservative Politicians," which is told from the POV of a rapist that thanks conservative rape apologists for allowing people like him to exert so much control over a woman's body with so little consequences for their actions. posted by zombieflanders (15 comments total)

This post was deleted for the following reason: The GOP are pretty terrible about rape, but at the same time Mefi is not a GOP Rape Shittiness blog and it feels like we've really had a lot of "let's talk about rape and people who are shitty about rape" posts. -- cortex

Look, if you're going whole hog with this evangelical bullshit, then EVERYTHING THAT EVER HAPPENS FOREVER AND EVER is what god intended, isn't it?

The fan letter was great. If incredibly disturbing and distressing to read as a person who has been raped.

But maybe it'll make some people understand what these people are actually advocating.

Open letter from a Rapist (warning: possible Trigger) AKA Fan letter to certain conservative politicians.

I'm sad something like this needs to be written. But it really is that simple. Cross posted from the BIG ONE.

This line from the Onion really sums it up:
At press time, multiple male Senate candidates in their 60s remained divided between those who believe pregnancies resulting from rape are biologically impossible and those who believe they are the divine will of God.

If God really intended the woman to have a child as the result of a rape, isn't it also trivially easy for Him to convince her not to get an abortion? Wouldn't he send an angel to tell her to have the kid or something?

Any time anyone argues that something is "God's Will", what they mean is, "Free will is a myth." Even if that's true, everyone should basically go on pretending that it isn't a myth since everything you decide to do, even getting that abortion, is God's will.

Also, what Brocktoon said.

So the Evangelical vote is worth being a total fuckin' dickwad?

Like, can't you get the Evangelical vote without having to bring up abortion and all the edge cases that come with it?

I don't understand how any woman can vote for one of these guys.

Yeah, it is. It's called providentialism, and that's the argument being made. Baffles me that the internet cannot seem to attack this guy for the idiocy he's actually demonstrating, and instead try to make it as though he was arguing in favor of rape.
