Do 100,000 people care about whales?

So far, it seems not. There are two petitions on We the People on whitehouse.gov asking the Obama administration to intervene in Japan's whale hunt activities in the Antarctic Whale Sanctuary. One is to ask Obama to support the State Department in standing up to Japan's illegal whale hunting that they claim to do for scientific purposes (yes, kill up to 1,000 whales annually, including endangered species, for "scientific research"). The other petition is to not arrest and extradite Paul Watson, the founder of Sea Shepherds, who has been subject to trumped-up, politically motivated charges. It's complicated, and if you are interested you can read more about it on the Sea Shepherd website. Regardless of how you feel about Sea Shepherd, please take a few minutes and show your support for the whales by signing the petitions. 100,000 signatures are needed to receive an official response from the White House.
This post was deleted for the following reason: We don't do sign your petition posts here, feel free to make a post about the issue generally, but not soapboxing for it. Let us know if you have questions. -- jessamyn
