Evolution, according Miss USA candidates - it's part of our history

Complete transcript of the answers given by all Miss USA candidates, by brave ScienceBlogs writer, Josh Rosenau.

One candidate (Indiana representing!) thinks "...it should be left up to the goverment"; while another (New Mexico) says yes, "...because it's based on science..."
Read it and you may weep.
Or not.
It's only Miss USA.

I was appalled and then remembered this is essentially a Donald Trump affair -- winning this competition is just the US qualifier for his Miss Universe pageant. Unlike some beaty competitions, this one doesn't have much to do with funding one's higher education aspirations.

It still baffles and scares the shit out of me that there is so much ignorance about, and opposition to, evolution in the US. Something went seriously wrong with the education system there. I wonder how it can have been allowed to happen.

I see CA, CT, NM as the only ones giving real unqualified support for teaching evolution. Everyone else is some version of "sure teach ALL THE THINGS!" for the most part.

Sigh...

Making fun of people is not a great reason for a post.

And who says that this is exclusively about making fun? The video provides a glimpse (albeit it small and focused) into the opinions on the subjects of science/religion. Two subjects that play an important role in shaping our society.
