figment

"To honor the anniversary of Warhol’s birthday, August 6, 2013 The Andy Warhol Museum and EarthCam launched a collaborative project titled Figment, a live feed of Warhol’s gravesite. This live feed, viewable 24 hours a day, seven days a week.."
That's... kinda crazy. I wonder how long before a vandal causes major damage to the site.

So...he didn't want his gravesite filmed?

He was pretty obsessed with dead celebrities himself, I kind of he'd appreciate this.

Doesn't sound like they did much research on the name, given that there are the Figment participatory art festivals in Boston and NY.

Well, I have to give her credit, it looked like she field stripped that smoke and kept the butt, instead of just throwing it on Andy's grave....

It seems pretty in line with some of his own films like "Empire".

I wish I could find the video my friend showed me that pointed out how destructive Andy Warhol was to our culture. It's the vampiric ur-hipster image, the remix culture, fame for fame's sake, blank affect, modern art as a joke.
but hey, at least he gave us the Velvet Underground

Had a few minutes of fun watching an old man in a kilt stumble around the grave carrying a long pole. Couldn't tell what he was trying to do with the helium balloons.

That is our culture.
Warhol was a mirror.

In college I had a film professor who saw Sleep in 1963. Said he'd been talked into going, didn't know much about Warhol at the time or how long a film it was. By the time he realized what he was in for he was trapped -- the theater was completely packed and there was no way out. So he did the only thing he could do. He lay down and went to sleep.

The Mylar balloons were my favorite part of my visit to the Andy Warhol Museum. If you've never been, the whole place is terrific. I highly recommend it as part of your destination vacation to Pittsburgh.

Hey, I kind of enjoyed my destination vacation to Pittsburgh. The Warhol Museum is indeed pretty cool, and with the mountains and all the railroad tracks everywhere, it's exactly like walking around in a 1:1 scale model railroad layout. There's even railroads that go straight through the upper levels of skyscrapers. It's unlike any place I've ever been and I liked it.

That sounded sarcastic, but I really miss Pittsburgh. I never even went on the incline, so I have to go back. I still love my memories of driving in from the west, coming out of the tunnel and just being hit right between the eyes by the skyline. For an old individual city, it's gorgeous, and I'm very happy that it seems to be doing much better than a lot of other cities with similar histories.

So if anyone's going to the Warhol Museum, MeMail me. We only live a couple blocks away and are members of the Carnegie. Also if you're in the neighborhood, walk over to the Mattress Factory, lots of cool installation art.

I also live two blocks from Warhol's family's scrap metal salvage business which is still in operation.
This is a pretty interesting article about his family and his Catholicism written on the tenth anniversary of his death.

That's great. That's really great.
Shame The Washington Post wasn't sold on Warhol's birthday. Because Lally Weymouth, Katherine Graham's daughter, and a Senior Associate Editor of the paper, was a member of Warhol's Interview circle in the '70s. Lally's ex-husband Yann built the Dali Museum in St. Pete and Andy liked to attend Dali's Sunday dinners and, according to the Diaries, Lally hooked up with Fred Hughes, Andy's manager. (Lally is also, incidentally, the ex-sister-in-law of Talking Heads' Tina Weymouth.)
