I love this kind of thing. I bought one of those ultra cheesy horse's head masks like you see all over Reddit and meme sites, and I've taken great delight in shooting with it in studios and on sets all over town. Such fun, and the looks you get while you're doing it are always phenomenal.

Just the phrase "this bear is literally 75% off" was enough to identify the writer as the Bloggess to me.

I'm not sure what that says about me, or about the Bloggess. But it definitely says something.

rikschell, you are amazingly correct. I know this because I RTFA.

I was sort of like MangyCarface at first, but then I realized that I kinda talk like this on chat some times, so, I really can't judge, and it is actually quite good writing, so, I should just shut up and let the me that appreciates such things actually do it's work for once instead of letting the cynic be such a hater.

I love it. Also, I love the cats crawling all over it.

My brother once came into posession of a stuffed deer's head. It became the BEST THING EVER for his two labradors. Normally the deer head lived in a closet, but then sometimes he'd take it out and scream at the top of his lungs while waving it at the dogs, who proceeded to become FERAL CRAZY LABRADORS leaping and clawing and barking and generally creating a great cacophony.

Eventually, the deer head was just too beat up to keep - a combination of age and the dog claws and such. And so he took it to the town dump and tossed it in with the rest of the trash and then some guy next to him who was also disposing of trash said "wow, that's pretty beat up" and my brother said "well, good head is hard to find."

the writing style was so "OMG you guys I am SO quirky and funny can you BELIEVE me??"

But then, she actually is quirky and funny, so it seems earned. And the "funny" isn't "oh, God, look at the crrrrazy shit I'm doing" but actual wit (the little side bar on the cat doing yoga was hilarious). But, you know, nobody has to read it if they don't like it, and humor is always very hit-or-miss depending on your particular sensibilities.

But possibly not pony-chandelier-free because goddamn I need a new chandelier and that sounds like a winner.

Also, this is not the first time she's bought a big taxidermied animal head. Only last time, she turned that weird purchase into a campaign which raised $42K for charity.
Quick note for anyone who hasn’t been here forever. James Garfield is what I named the giant, tattered, taxidermied head of a wild boar that I made my husband buy at an estate sale last year because James Garfield looked SO DAMN HAPPY.  Then every time Victor would walk in my office he’d huff that he couldn’t believe I’d spent $90 on James Garfield so I decided to make back the money to get Victor to shut up so I offered on my blog to make homemade Christmas Cards with James Garfield’s face on them saying things like “OH IT JUST GOT ALL KINDS OF MOTHERFUCKIN’ FESTIVE IN HERE, Y’ALL” for $10 each.  I made back the $90 and made so much extra that I got carpal tunnel and was able to donate a few hundred dollars to a fellow blogger recovering from a stroke.  She wasn’t doing well at the time but now she’s kicking as much ass as you can from a wheelchair (which is a shitload, apparently).  Probably due to the James Garfield cards if I had to give my professional medical opinion.  MIRACLE NUMBER ONE.

Then this year people asked for James Garfield cards but I was too tired to make them so I just put them on zazzle and I was shocked to find that $600 of cards were sold so Victor and I decided that since we were so lucky this year we’d give $30 gift certificates to the first 20 people who left a comment saying they needed help getting Christmas for their children.  When more requests flooded in a reader stepped up and offered to help the 21st person and then another and another and then it avalanched into hundred of strangers sending hundreds of strangers over $42,000 in toys, food, car seats and more.    MIRACLE NUMBER TWO.
The Bloggess is seriously awesome.

I live in an 860 square foot home, yet I find myself staring at the horse chandelier with a strange sense of longing. Surely I don't really need two bedrooms for three people, right? One of them could become the horse chandelier room, and my partner can take the sofa, and the kid and I can share a room?

Or I could sleep with the horse chandelier and fall asleep lovingly running my my fingers through its beautiful, sparkly array of lights. I hope it doesn't snore.

Jaysuz.

I have never really wanted to be rich before, but now I can't stop thinking about how amazing it would be if I could commission a few of these. Like maybe a stegosaurus and a giant dachshund.

On preview: An enormous stuffed porcupine holding a beer can would also be a worthy subject for a huge, fuck-off crystal chandelier.

Driving my sister to the airport, and I spotted a young person carrying a mounted deer head to the curb. We had time, sort of, so I immediately pulled over, verified that this nice 6 point buck was offered for free, and put it in the back of the SUVini. A mounted deer head with antlers is bigger than you think. My sister was mildly amused, and we took airport pics with the deer, as well as my dog, who was intrigued. I drove around with the deer for quite a while. It gets some attention. I really wished my house was big enough for a mounted deer head, especially in the bathroom for towels, or as an alternative to a Christmas tree. But it didn't fit anywhere, and I didn't want to remove 2 bookcases to make room for a deer head.

I didn't name it, and I wish I'd thought to haul it around and take stupid pictures.

I posted it for free, and was mobbed with responses, for months, actually. It's entertaining to get email asking "Still got that deer head?" I met the new owner at Starbucks (I wasn't carrying, don't know about her) and I handed it over. They're worth some money, but that wouldn't have felt right.

The bloggess is hilarious; I hope she keeps writing for a long time.

Given the prevalence of mindless scorn on the internet, it's I suspect reasonably common to confuse genuinely reasoned personal dislike with random mindless scorn, to the detriment of all.

Humans enjoy jumping to conclusions. It's unfortunate, but it's also why we are what we are.
