Band names

Band names are out; blog names are in. All of us musical inepts who spent more time thinking up band names than actually learning to play an instrument now have a purpose for our great list of names that rock your world, dude! Here's a really brief list of blog names grabbed from Linkwatcher, any one of which could have been a band name: Virulent Memes, Grouse, The Dome of the Sky, Underduck, Sixth Dev, Ten Reasons Why, Industrial Technology and Witchcraft, Phester, Hopeless Romantics, Next Generation Degeneration, Being Terran, Hit or Miss, Entropy, Wee David, Kitty Kitty, Inexplicable Fancy Trash, etc etc. On the flip side, you could use random band name generators to come up with blog names, too. Some people compile lists of band names. Of course, some sites take band names seriously. What's your best band/blog name ever?

When the "generic grocery" thing hit, back in the early-to-mid-eighties and there were enormous numbers of items all in white packaging with bold, black letters ("BEER", "PIZZA", "POTATO CHIPS" etc., like in Repo Man), I wanted to name my band "BAND", and have everyone wear white T-shirts with black lettering ("DRUMMER", "BASS PLAYER", etc.).

No one liked my idea.

I actually wanted to use "Diffical Techniculties" for a musical project once. It'd make a good blog name too, probably.

I happen to own the following domains that might make good blog names: titaniumspork.com, beeflo.com (named after the way a friend's three-year-old says "beautiful"), infopusher.com, quesiton.com (named for the subatomic particle that carries curiosity). And which of those interesting names do I use for my own blog? Um... my name... (sigh)

A friend of mine told me she was driving her kids around once and her daughter said " Mom, Nathan keeps calling me Dr. Wienerbutt! Make hm stop!"

I've always favored Dr Wienerbutt ever since...

Public Image didn't go quite that far, but they did do something with the "plain wrap" idea.

Also, I've had a bunch of fake bands. My most real fake band is The Happy Sparkle Funtime Band.

favorite blog names i've cooked up:

:: evolve you hapless bastards! [now gomi no sensei] self-link ahoy!
:: mental hygiene - actually introduced a girl i was interested in to the wonderful world of blogging and she made me think up a name for her.

band names/concepts:

:: pot luck marty - 80's style power punk. name garnished off a phone message for my dad that read "pot luck, marty (714) XXX-XXXX" when my friend noid said "hey, that'd be a good band name."
:: marilyn hanson - gothic covers of hanson songs. there's really not much more that can be said there.
:: orange tang clan - white boy hip hop parody. we even went so far as to have orange tang clan names. mine was "boogah smalls" aka "The Notorious B.O.O.G.".
:: the tyrones - picture funk covers of ramones tunes. now stop laughing.

My favourite band name is from a small, Manitoba-based group: Chocolate Bunnies from Hell. I actually haven't heard any of their music, but one can only assume from the name that they 'rawk'.

"titwrench" is my favorite band name. they're so indie that you can barely find any useful information on them at google (they are buried in an interview, at least, but only as a passing mention).

Mental Floss.

For album names, I like I was young and I needed the money.

Ack... early days of guitar-playing resurfacing like a repressed abuse memory... no!!
I was in a band called Reverend Chicken... but I always wanted to do an eighties cover band called 'Cafe 80s'. Why is it all the famous bands have really crappy names?
Oh... and album names? In my flat we've whittled it down to either Mungo Jerry's 'Electronically Tested' or Neil Finn's 'Try Whistling to this' - something the more scatologically-minded amongst you can try announcing next time you're about to break wind. :P

My two new favourite phrases which could name domains, blogs or bands are both derived from comments made by two of my cousins at two separate holiday gatherings. The first is "Ghetto (Lemon) Cake" and the second is "Infidel Fruit." Come to think on it, put together, that could be a great band -- "Ghetto (Lemon) Cake and the Infidel Fruit." Hmm. There's a concept. . .

One day my brother asked me for a good band name and some random firing of synapses caused me to say "What about Second Shooter And The Grassy Knolls"? He didn't get it, but I always thought it sounded really cool.

Others I have enjoyed:

Butt Trumpet
Nashville Pu$$y
Wasted Tape
Toad The Wet Sprocket, RIP (Anyone named after a fake band in a real Monty Python sketch can't be all bad)
