Jeremiah Heaton promised his young daughter Emily she could be a real princess. Because he is not a liar, he travelled to a peculiarly unclaimed 800 sq. mi. region between Egypt and Sudan and planted his flag to create the Kingdom of North Sudan. He believes the physical flag overrides prior claims made online. Bir Tawil was unwanted as both Egypt and Sudan prefer borders which exclude Bir Tawil from their control while including more desirable nearby land. Gawker is displeased.
This post was deleted for the following reason: Maybe there's a way to make this post that isn't just fodder for the internet hate machine, but as is, I don't think we need to join a lot of snarky/cruel online speculation about how horrible a little girl is going to be when she grows up, etc. -- taz
Weird to say it, but I think I'm with Gawker on this. There's a previous claim, the previous claim has a lot more thought put into it, and doesn't come from a rich white American with delusions of grandeur.
Literal delusions of grandeur, since he thinks he's the King.

I'm sure Emily is going to grow up to be a swell adult, what with her father's teriffically swell parenting and hamburgers.

This is what happens when a country's education system (quite literally) whitewashes over the horrors of colonialism and slavery (and their modern equivalents).

Thus begins the curious and improbable tale of Emily Heaton's blood-soaked rise to the position Empress of the World.
