The Eyes of Hitchcock (SLVimeo)
Kogonada has done a bunch of these. They're brilliant for just sort of sharpening your eye to visual techniques in film.
Hands of Bresson is my favorite, and the neorealism one is brilliant.

octothorpe: "Neat idea but I hate the animated GIF effect that he used."
Seconded. And yet I can easily imagine it becoming a 'thing' in videomaking. The 'GIF aesthetic' has developed so strongly on Tumblr etc that it's hard to see it not making the jump over to video in one form or another...

No kidding, octothorpe, it either muted or made into slapstick the actual impact of Hitchock's shots of eyes.

The GIF bobblehead effect is creepy. Agreed. But I love this idea. The clip of Martin Balsam on the stairs is great.

OK, I'll say it. It looks like dude is staring at me horrified while furiously masturbating off-screen. Unsettling, and unfortunate.
So there.

Struck again by how beautiful most of these eyes were and how well they convey madness/fear/evil/horror. What artistry Hitchcock and his actors brought to these tawdry tales, and what a fool this guy is for messing with it. This is a bit like someone showing off the graffiti they sprayed on Hopper's Nighthawks at the Diner.

I found it delicious. Everybody knows that Hitch loves his faces and eyes, but this really heightened the effect. And c'mon, crushonastick (and on preview, bearwife), Hitchcock is just a film director, not God. Lighten up.

It worked very well, especially with the music, although perhaps they could have been slowed down a little more.
I'm so glad I didn't watch this high.

Probably true in the case of Psycho.
