Presented like something straight out of a fantasy novel. An innocent childhood shattered by the realization that the weight of the world is on their shoulders, confusion and ignorance turned to skill and knowledge through extraordinary labor, the hero manipulated by outside forces but wresting control as time goes by, a terrible villain threatening all they hold dear. Next is raising the army, which I suppose depends an awful lot on us.

I think this is a pretty common pattern for indigenous peoples -- we certainly see it in my country. A community pools resources to get the education and social resources for future leaders so the young person can become an asset to the group.
