(There goes a piece of my childhood. I will say I'm glad he featured in the Star Trek movie reboot, where they explicitly jumped to an alternate timeline, in a formal passing of the torch.

Oh man, my eyes are wet right about now. In addition to his role as Spock he did a lot of awesome stuff, and I believe much of it (his photography at least) has been linked here before.
I identified so much more with his character than Kirk's as a youngster. As a kid I was a pretty ardent trekkie. I stood in line at a Toys are Us in Houston and waited as he came around to shake everybody's hand. Mine included.

Nine year old me was glad to meet him at an appearance he made at a Kiddie City toy store in Philadelphia in 1975. He's dead, Jim.
