Sports and pop culture site Grantland, the brainchild of former ESPN writer/producer Bill Simmons, has been unceremoniously suspended by ESPN.
After Simmons' departure from the Worldwide Leader in May, the fate of his pet project was the subject of intense debate. Earlier this month, several Grantland writers left the site, some allegedly joining Simmons, possibly at HBO, where he signed a "multiyear, multiplatform pact" in July.

This is a loss. Even as I've been moving away from being a big sports fan in general, I always found Grantland to be a place for some interesting, thoughtful pieces.
