aaron - now that you're famous, don't forget us little people, OK?

Ahahah... Rotten to the Whore. How droll.

many others have been reacting like hysterical women (I know, that’s redundant)

This guy must love flame email or something.
can't say I disagree with him on the hysterical women thing though. *ducks*

According to his second column, he isn't gay!!

I think we know what this means!!!!!1111

I know, I feel horrible knowing he loves the attention. He probably read every comment on the 29 blogs that posted his original column.

We should do something really unpleasant to him. Something he won't enjoy.
How about we douse him in urine and give him a haircut?

(opening Mail, composing email to assult@fark.com, cc: dos@slashdot.org, smartass@mcsweeneys.net, oo@alcyone.com...etc.)

Then again, this is only making him despair more. It is clear he was f'ed up to begin with, but to attempt to rationalize the hatred of 60000 people, many of which attacking your haircut....let's just say he's going to break eventually.

some people called me bad names, once. these people are, naturally, quite awful and laughable; in fact, allow me to show you how they are both.

moz, would you say it is really laughable??

it isn't laughable when "our friends" become successful.

the whole point of this is to rile liberals up, i hear.

the cornell review is an inflammatory republican/conservative campus paper. they get their rocks off trying to piss off LIBERALS. they often succeed, causing uproar (the less headstrong have attempted to shut the paper down, they used to steal stacks of the paper and use them for bonfires in protest). the really stupid thing is, everybody's too stupid or lazy to make a decent parody of the review, so the review will basically always win.

looks like they got what they wanted. i wish people wouldn't buy into this stuff and stop taking this idiot seriously.

Okay fair enough. Here is a very humerous picture from Fark.com for those of us who "get" stuff which is "humerous"

no, settle: we hate it when our friends become successful. and if they're northern, well that's even worse then ... it's really laughable:

Uh
I think it is ironic that his last name is a form of the spanish verb for "to know"
Saber, I think. Maybe it is to think.

60,000 new enemies and he still can't get a girl while he's in college. I guess fame does have it's downside....

No, you're right, Settle - saber is to know. And the coolest way of opening Champagne bottles, of course.

I love the "Chuck U. Farley" name.

I sent him a letter and asked if he'd pass my email address or url on to that chick in Toronto. He wrote back that I should have to wear a Scarlet Letter and linked me to another of his articles.

Freak.

Shit that's funny. I still think the best thing about him is his picture, but I admit that it's fascinating how he chose to respond exclusively to the attacks on his person, and not on his argument. One suspects the poor guy is just a tad full of himself.

Yeah! I'm published! Or something.

That's about the fourth time I've been referred to as a "fellow blogite/blogger/whatever" lately. I really ought to get my own damn blog up and running instead of writing emails to other bloggers.

aaron, I wish you would. b/c i would read it with respect, as a left-leaning idiot, if you will, and hopefully enjoy much more than many of the DenBeste pretentious crap that's out there for the conservatives.

Of course he did. Most of the responses to his article were attacks on his person. To what else should he respond?

... but I admit that it's fascinating how he chose to respond exclusively to the attacks on his person, and not on his argument.

It's one of the oldest tricks in the book for talentless hacks who write columns -- when you get a lot of negative mail, quote the dumbest or most inflammatory comments made about you to make all of your critics look bad.

As an aside, you ought to start a weblog, Aaron.

Joe Sabia was the head R.A. or some such of my building my freshman year at Cornell. We pulled lots and lots of pranks on him. Good times, good times.
posted by J. R. Hughto at 5:57 AM on March 22, 2002

Sean Mooney, of UC Berkeley, was also upset at the religious tone of my article: "It is obvious that this guy Joseph Sabia is on some kind of maniacal Christian Coalition agenda to make all women the virginal vision of beauty. I respect his opinion but must digress to the fact that his diatribe is coating in the sticky stank of Robert Reed." I pointed out to Mr. Mooney that he probably meant Ralph Reed since Robert Reed was the father on Brady Bunch. Referring to a deceased former AIDS patient as having a “sticky stank coating” is a horribly unfortunate error.

You gotta admit -- that's pretty funny.

Reminds me of the wifebeaters guy. Both have that same "you suck if you don't agree with me" point of view.

Most of the responses to his article were attacks on his person.

Maybe, yes, but that makes it no less of an ego-trip to use your publication's forum to respond, when the letter-writers have no such recourse. Generally, if a publication's going to print a response, it's in response to an argument with merit (and I've no doubt there were some in their inbox, given how laughable the original article is) -- and not just to give its writer an elevated podium for his personal spit fights.

Yawn.

Come on! This is funny!

Though I admit, I'm in a jovial mood.
posted by mattpfeff at 7:56 AM on March 22, 2002

this is funny, but Please...no more Sabia links. I've read all of his articles already. Even NEW articles are never really going to be different.

and aaron, in view of sabia's quoting you, i would like to offer you honorary membership in the unofficial metafilter liberal cabal. congrats! you should get your denny's 10% discount card in a few weeks.

the unofficial metafilter liberal cabal is a left-leaning centrist conservatively liberal think tank. our views in no way reflect the views of the owner of metafilter, members of metafilter, the metatalk police, bono, michael j fox's character from family ties, our own UMLC members, ann coulter, or ralph nader. we think atlas shrugged was cool for the sex. I am suprised that so much attention is given to an article written by a closed minded college kid...a child, a baby...we all remember college- that place where nothing is real- where the words of your parents (for most) are all that you know, where you have no original thoughts of your own (again, for most/some)...give us a call once you lived on your own and paid you own bills in the real world (though I doubt he'll ever have to pay his own way or cut his teeth anywhere)

agreed though...his article is only flame bait from a hack writer...

Joseph Sabia is around 27 years old, according to another column. Isn't that too old for the kid, child, or baby labels to be applied to him?
posted by rcade at 7:44 PM on March 22, 2002
