This kind of thing just exacerbates the left-leaning American penchant for offhandedly saying "If [something happens], I'm moving to Canada!"
FYI, you can't just "move to Canada." The government of Canada does have some say in the matter.
It's both annoying and ironic that Americans who view themselves as somewhat dissident display a classically American attitude when they seem to assume that they can just move anywhere they want.
Also, the Cape Breton website is more chamber of commerce boosterism than it is political or anti-Trump.

crazylegs, the local chamber had nothing to do with this. It was a joke by a local radio DJ, who added links to the local tourism website to his site. They were a little confused when they started to get a whole lot of extra attention, and decided to just go along with it.

My bug-out bag will have a ticket to Haneda in it, actually.
When I was studying Japanese in the late 80s my goal was to get a job at Namco or Sega.
While I did not expect the arcade industry to evaporate as it has, I only recently came to understand how "parlous" Japan's demographics were.
Horace Greeley, 1871:
I missed the 1990s boom here at home, but had a good time there even as their 1980s boom/bubble economy pancaked over the years.
Not sure how much Japan Inc wants or needs to hire Americans this decade and next, but overall I think we can be a good fit, if we as immigrants come over with respect and sensitivity to Japanese norms.

Numerous right-wingers have also threatened to expatriate if Obama was elected, or reelected, or Obamacare passed. The problem is there aren't any places they can emigrate to with all their guns while avoiding public health care services but without straying too far from conventional western amenities like retail shopping and access to the Internet.
At least people on the left have options for places they can live with some measure of accordance to their ideologies.

Bush and Trump are not at all analogous, though. Bush might have been an idiot, but for all of his myriad failings--and lack of any real qualifications--he was (is?) a relatively credible idiot who was (is?) part of the mainstream of the Republican party and the son of a former President.
Trump has exactly zero of this credibility-by-association, and his campaign strategy is predicated on such cartoonish buffoonery that--and, admittedly this is just my opinion--I don't believe his appeal is likely to spread far enough into the mainstream to make him a real threat to the presidency.
I mean, perhaps I am wrong to put that kind of faith in the electorate, but I have to agree with President Obama here. The American people, as a whole, are just not that stupid. (Many of them undoubtedly are, but not, I think, enough of them to elect a Trump.)

If Trump makes good on his threat to run as an independent candidate if the Republicans don't nominate him (something he has recently restated even after signing the Loyalty Pledge™), I think the Democrats would start popping champagne corks. They could nominate Walter Mondale and come away with pretty close to a landslide.

I was gonna join in the snark here -- the idea of Cape Breton being diverse is hilarious; the percentage of Capers who are first cousins or closer (or both...) is probably pretty high -- but, in regard to those two specific points, it's worth mentioning that: 1. Nova Scotia is unique among the provinces in that it doesn't have a separate Catholic school board, and: 2. a good chunk of that remaining 5% of languages are Acadian French and Canadian Gaelic, which, while not exactly reflecting a ton of racial diversity, are neat, and I wouldn't want to see them smothered by American.

Conspiracy types suggest that he's been in cahoots with Hillary from the start for this very reason.
In any event, in a country where only slightly more than half of eligible voters actually vote, there's little enough to say about the wisdom of the population. The best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity.
It would be interesting to know how many Canadians left Canada on the election of Trudeau.

Quebec no longer has religious school boards either, though it used to. (And Nova Scotia used to have racially segregated schools, up until the 80s, so it's not like it was this maritime heaven.)
That said there's a not insignificant number of Mi'kmaq and they have (for Canada) unusually good First Nations education.
Honestly Cape Breton is lovely, but it's not really full of jobs; there's a reason the population is declining.

I looked into it when this story crossed my desk the other day. Long story short if you're like me and essentially able to do your job from any location with high-speed Internet, you're going to need a pretty sizable stack of cash and a letter from one of the approved "tech incubators" to move to Canada as an "entrepreneur." Some of the requirements may be lessened or waived entirely if the province is willing to sponsor you, but good luck with that.
Also, you'll want a good coat.

Taken out of context, this gives a very wrong impression. There were isolated schools in small communities that were de facto segregated (often Black Loyalist communities), but the law was changed in 1954. I grew up in a racially diverse school system in the 1970s and it was not new then. Racism is a significant part of our history here (and remains an issue), but suggesting Nova Scotia was some Mississippi of the North is pretty ridiculous.

I heard this said, in 2000
Well, to be fair, the Republicans didn't win the 2000 election.

That election was stolen fair and square.

As others echoed, by all means come as it is a beautiful place but bring a job. My Acadian grandfather left P'tite Bras d'Or in the early 40s looking for work and he never looked back.

I'm in. I love cold weather, I can speak decent French, and my username is a large Canadian credit union. Maybe I can slip through unnoticed.

My great-grandparents are from St. John, New Brunswick. That doesn't actually give me any legal immigration status in Canada, but I figure it gives me some moral or genetic standing at least if I need to flee northward.

I actually showed that site to my husband tonight as a joke and the joke's on me because now he seriously wants to move there. He thinks it sounds like paradise. I work from home so location doesn't matter, and my salary could easily support our family of 4 there. He really wants to play house husband. I think I'd miss the joys of city life too much, Montreal to Cape Breton may be a bit too much adventure for me right now!

It looks like houses there are pretty affordable right now, especially with the exchange rate. Maybe I should avoid the rush. Weirdly, my condo building fills up with folks from that part of Canada this time of year. I can ask around. Trump or no Trump, a change of scenery might do me some good.

I'm just going to leave this here, Metafilter:
I started a new book today (Universe 1 by Robert Silverberg and Karen Haber) and it contains the following quote:
"Before us reared the tallest building in all of old Nuevo York, what used to be old man Tru7mp's very HQ, before we was elected president and got sliced and diced" (p79, from One Night In Television City, by Paul Di Filipo).
So, if Di Filipo was a prophet.... a dystopia must surely follow.

You mean there's an island where I can be comfortable at the beach during summer and get snow in the winter? I'm in!

So... in the event of a Trump victory, when are we having the first meetup?
Side note, think of this as a refugee camp / Greatfull Dead concert. Bringing beer with you is reccommended, and the savvy ones among you will bring beer to sell.
