Because sometimes, when the stresses and hardships of earthly existence threaten to overwhelm, you just really need to see two Pokemon dancing to Orinoco Flow.

It works. The Smashmouth version is better.

In fact, the Smashmouth/Tori Amos mashup that has been making the rounds may work exceedingly well.

They're such good dancers! They must have worked really hard. I'm proud of them.

Also, on an Enya–related note: her (pretty fantastic) album Dark Sky Island, out earlier this year, taught me what dark sky preserves were, in time for me and my roommate to rent a car, trek out to the darkest part of southern New Jersey, and watch the Pleiades from a field so dark, it wasn't until the moon set past two in the morning for us to truly see the sky as it could be seen there.

It was beyond stunning. The sky looked the way it does in astrological photographs: (what I assume was) the arm of the Milky Way was so dense with stars that it glowed blue in the sky. (At the very least, something was lighting a streak of the sky blue.)

And you could see shooting stars several times a minute. Some so brightly that, if you were looking right as they shot by, you got sunspots—er... shooting starspots—for five minutes after.

It was an unforgettable experience and it's made me want to trek out to dark sky preserves as frequently as I possibly can. It felt genuinely sacred, in every sense of the word.

Sort of like Enya music! So thank you, Enya!

Something like that appearing above you every night, how could our ancestors not develop religions?

On dancing dragons I've got nothing. But that Tori mashup is doing my head in. Jessica, I hate you.

I believe I have mentioned this on the site before but I lost my virginity to the album (Watermark) that Orinoco Flow is on. Referring to Enya as Inme will never not be funny to me.

A+ on the dancing pokecreatures - made me laugh my ass off.

Goddammit. Southeast United States sucks!

Oh, I want them to dance to Method of Modern Love. Or Modern Love, even. Modern Love would work. And if we're gonna do late 80s-early 90s mellow women pop singers, Been Around the World by Lisa Stansfield would be very good, too!

It's been a rough day. I'd have never imagined that all it took to turn it around was a couple of dancing Pokemon.

Oh my god, it works with Alexander Hamilton. 1:25 is just enough to get through to the first couple "Alexander Hamiltons".

It also somehow syncs up with Subdivisions by Rush; even during the points of the song that lurch into 7/8, to throw off anyone who dared to try to dance to it. Literally.

Maybe I just have a low threshold for amusement but I am literally crying laughing at the "Goodbye Horses" video in rorgy's link

This is so adorable and I am especially delighted by the inclusion of so much secondary animation 'cause it really sells the gracefulness of the choreography. The dancing was probably mocapped, yeah?

Oh my god they're doing the mashed potato dance

My nemesis

I will master you someday

But for now I will just be unbelievably disappointed in myself over the fact that a pair of dancing Pokemon have the right moves and I don't
posted by Hermione Granger at 10:59 PM on August 25, 2016 [1 favorite]

Wait are they dancing at the same speed that the dancing Spider-Man gif dances

Because if so that would explain why you can put almost any song over the video and their moves will sync up nicely

Dude, get yourself hence to Death Valley as soon as possible. No where before have i felt such an utter sense of holy nothingness before the universe as staring into the sky in the middle of a gods forsaken desert at night

I so want to go back once the child-of-the-city kid is old enough to appreciate it.

It looks like this was created using MMD, which I only know about due to this wonderful Metafilter thread. Essentially you start with a source video, capture the movements and then apply them!

The reddit thread above links to the choreography for these dancing pokemon.

Yes but don't wear a namebadge and then nobody would know it was you inside. Problem solved!

From that same Reddit thread that stark find the choreography, here's the original "dragon dance" for that Japanese song. Both Pokemon are following the girl in the center based on their movements (yes, I watched both videos multiple times to catch this). This is also there longer version that has the whole routine. The related videos are also amazing.
