The 2016 Al Smith charity dinner was held this evening in New York. It was unusually brutal.

Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton turned these usually self-effacing speeches into a Comedy Central style roast. Trump was repeatedly booed and Clinton elicited some... memorable reactions from a gentlemen behind her for her cutting remarks.

So is there a protocol for the order in which you introduce dignitaries? Like why a governor and a mayor would get introduced before senators, but then a former mayor after them? Or is it just random?
