When my kids were little I took them to see this storyteller from Mississippi who would use his fingers in complicated ways to create images of the various animals and creatures that were in his story. This apparently was a common way to tell stories in that region. My kids were so entranced that they can still recreate some of the complicated animals with their fingers many years later.

I wonder if finger tutting has any roots from Mississippi story telling.
