"That's what secretaries are for, isn't it?"

Barbara Hale, best known as Della Street – secretary par excellence to Raymond Burr’s Perry Mason – died Thursday. She was 94. Burr (who died in 1993) once called her “a remarkably intuitive actress. She has an instinct for doing exactly the right thing when it is needed.” She was also the mother of William Katt, star of The Greatest American Hero. He played Paul Drake Jr., opposite his mother, in several Perry Mason TV movies.

Della Street was one of the first "strong" female characters on TV. Barbara Hale was a good actress.

She was one of my Mom's favorite actresses on one my Mom's favorite shows back when. She was a pleasure to watch as Della Street.

For some reason one of the new UHF channels played PM when I was a kid and got to watch it with Grandma and Great Aunt #1, and they'd seen them already and chuckled at me while smoking Carlton 120's and drinking wine. Della Street was awesome.

Ham Burger? You have to be kidding me.
