Back in the day two buddies and I were on a pub-based tour around England. We had a map that showed town sizes by little lines (|||), and a three-line town was big enough to have at least one pub.
One Sunday we stopped in a three-line town, just big enough for a pub, a church, and some shops. When church let out all of the townspeople that had been in church came to the pub, and were surprised to find Americans. I told them I lived in North Carolina and the whole pub/town sang "Sweet Caroline."

After Boston shut down in mid-March, 2020, there was a brief outbreak of people organizing sing-alongs from their windows (and sometimes from their porches). On Gloucester Street in the Back Bay, one man did an updated version of the song.

This tickles me in so many ways that are hard to explain. A sprawling desert festival I attended for years got taken over by dubstep for a couple of years and that's how I learned of the genre. Everyone I knew at the festival ragged on it and bemoaned it and yet... I kind of had some good times dancing to it. Years later, I met a romantic partner who had been to said festival for many years longer than me and he LOVES dubstep.
When I visit him (he lives a plane ride away), his pandora/spotify mixes always end up on dubstep. No matter where we start. It could start with Willie Nelson and it would end up on some weird dubstep yet somehow folky mix.
This is the purest distillation of what I'm describing above. I love it and hate it in equal measure and I can't stop laughing

Okay so I have obviously heard this and know the song. But, when this was first posted, I remembered that my mother always liked Neil Diamond. So, I went through the albums I inherited when she passed away. Sure enough, Neil Diamond. Sweet Caroline. However, I am a Yankee fan so no Sweet Caroline in my house but we do play this song,
The SC version from 2012 from the Greek is so corny as to be likable.
