Big Ted Cassidy fan here, love seeing Lurch dance!
Cassidy and his wonderful voice were all over TV and films in the 60s, with notable appearances on Star Trek, Lost in Space, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., the Beverly Hillbillies and many more. He was an accomplished organist, and it was his hand that became The Thing (unless Lurch appeared in the same shot). He was big, but acromegaly truncated his life.
Lurch was intended to be mute. Thank heavens that changed.
