Ewww...good kitty. Thank you, kitty. So, our baby started crawling the other day. He's pretty slow, so the cats can still get away before he catches their tails. Our alpha male has decided that the baby is old enough to learn how to hunt, so he brought in a dead baby mockingbird. I suppose it could be worse.

ummm...lysdexic, don't look now but you have three (and possibly more) very hungry-looking felines ready to pounce.

It's an interesting concept post, lysdexic. I commend your bravery and creativity.
You have some time to breathe now while everyone wonders what they should think, hesitating to pounce in case they show off their ignorance of something that turns out to be truly brilliant. But, in a few minutes, be prepared for every anal-retentive self-styled Mefi-cop idiot on the site to jump you.

No danger of that here.

ShaneOPoghm: so, I guess what you're trying not to ask is: "what's yer point, exactly?"
I was just observing a very strange interaction between a pet and the baby.
All the books and articles I've read have many warnings about bringing in a new baby when you already have pets. Some of our cats have stayed away from him, but this one cat seems to have adopted the baby, and I haven't found any precedent for it.

I should've carried the metaphor further, but you caught the 'pounce'! Well, the thread has potential fun....

Quick, lysdexic, link to some of these cat/baby warnings, before they drag you into Meta like a dead baby mockingbird ;-)

warning, irritating popups:
How can we make sure our pets and our new baby will live together harmoniously?
Should I keep my pet away from my newborn?

hm. so many options here...
"mmm... bed daby bockingmirds."
or, maybe
"my cat's breath smells like dead baby mockingbirds"?
Don't worry, lysdexic; we've had fun, anyway, which is more than we can usually say.

The way I understand it, if you're introducing a new baby, or a new pet into a household with an established pet, the thing to do is, with the new addition in the room and in obvious sight, make a big fuss of the established pet, and ignore the newbie. Do this for a significant amount of time.
Once should do it.
Probably works in an all child situation too.

Thanks, Blue Stone. No, seriously. If I can do this once a day for each of my four spoiled cats, maybe Boots will stop chasing Jackie out of "her" litter boxes (and therefore maybe Jackie will stop expressing her grievance with Boots by occasionally pissing on the couch.)

We did do that, and really, only the alpha female was really put out. She tried to scratch the baby a few times and once got in a bite, but that was more of a sibling rivalry thing (popup warning), because she never drew any blood.
There was a week where we had to kennel her because she was sick and we were going out of town. When we were all together again, she couldn't be nice enough to the kid.

What people are trying to say, so badly hobbled by their sarcasm-hobbles, is that posts to the front page of MeFi should be of a broader interest than personal posts about you and your pets. That's what personal weblogs are for.
There's a strict taboo against posting something you're personally involved with, as MeFi would die terribly if it became a tool to drive people to your own site.
Let the sarcasm and gibbering continue now, unabated...

But this only superficially looks like a self-link -- the links are all actually to tangentially related web-sites that, so far as I could tell from a quick glance, have nothing to do with lysdexic. It's just an unusual style of post.
It seems like, for all the predictions and meta-fussing that's filled the thread, no one actually made the mistake of jumping down lysdexic's throat over the non-error, so all is probably well.

Again, non-issue. Did you actually follow the links?

And a big, fat, rimshot to taz!
Personally, I'm allergic to cats. The first symptoms usually show up by affecting the mucus membranes, with watering eyes and the occasional sneeze. Antihistamine eyedrops work well at this stage. After the sneezing comes the wheezing, and after that, the hives. Washing with soap and water usually cures them, as the problem is cat danders on the skin.
I also like salami, though these days I'm really partial to cream cheese and avodado.
Also, I have Radiohead tickets for August! They rule!
