You know, Dean's my candidate and I'm going out to IA to knock doors for him this weekend, and all.. but...

This is going to be one huge trainwreck of a thread.

Dean, as a young man, kinda looks like I do. Does that mean I can fail to win the presidency when I grow up?

Wow, Jm, your cynicism runs deep, eh?

I was thinking last night, as I watched Dean speak in Iowa, that he looks like a president. But then he stumbles with his speaking and then it cascades into a cluster fuck of a speech.

He's still my candidate and I'm voting for him and encouraging everyone else to vote for him as well.

Oh, don't get me wrong, Dean's my boy, but I fear I may be bad luck for him. I haven't had one my federal candidates win yet.

ABB! definitely! And Dean was cute when he was younger (but he's no Edwards) ; >

well the pictures have a kind of Ur-Abercrombie&Fitch, Bruce Weber quality to them (of course Dean is much shorter than the average fashion model, but still) -- the clean Long Island light, the bare chest, the old-skool football gear.
all the photos need are a few Black Labs and you're in Bruce Weber country

Imagine a presidential race with the football player running against the cheerleader.
I don't think a little flight suit stuffing is gonna fix that image.

Is there more to the post? Does he have a pepsi blue family album?

as much as i would like to see dean be president - i'm afraid he doesn't have a snowballs chance in hell of being elected (thus the Karl Rove endorsement). having seen kerry speak - and following his tumultuous candidacy for the last year ... i think he has the best chance of beating bush and would be a great president ... take a second look.

yeah, in the sense that Kerry's even colder and more boring than Gore. so, since ColdFish Gore beat Bush in '00 another ColdFish candidate can beat him in November? bah

I used to think Kerry's candidacy was very, very strong at least on paper -- his resume, his service in VietNam, his grasp of the issues -- but really he is an appalling public speaker. looks like his shoes are too tight or something.
Dean has other problems as public speaker (the anger thing, his being a doctor with a very bad bedside manner), but really Kerry is sooo cold and aloof.
and such things count, sadly.

Also: where does Dean's neck end and his head begin? Seriously. Is that a goiter? Don't act like you haven't wondered.

And what specialk420methcokebong said, regarding the snowball's chance.

This confirms what Richard Goldstein argued in this week's The Nation. He is way more butch than Clark; I don't believe it.

I see Dean as having wrestler-neck--which is very butch (and matteo's right about the Bruce Weberness of those pics)...Dean will be able to counter Bush's fake-butch stuff.

Kerry, unfortunately, looks like the child of that couple in American Gothic by Grant Wood, beside lacking personality and fire. How shallow are we tho? ; >

Any democrat has a chance. Dean has the best chance. Dean is bad for the DLC. They didn't pick him. Once he wins the nomination, dlc and everyone else will fall in line behind him. They have no choice.

Rove isn't dumb. If Dean was the White House's dream opponent the media wouldn't be carping about how Dean is going to be the next McGovern or the next Dukakis. Dean is scary for two reasons: 1) He will not let up. He will run a campaign that drums on and on about the lies that led us into Iraq, the fiscal irresponsibility of the current administration and the two big worries of average Americans: health care and jobs, 2) He's shown that he can raise money. He's got an "infrastructure" (best word I can think of) on the 'net that will enable him to raise MORE money than Bush. Watch and see.

I'm shallow enough to vote for a goddamn balloon animal if it shows the best chance of unseating our dangerously shitty sitting prez.

Yeah, but Kucinich is sweet and cute and totally believes in not hurting animals.

One of my favorite things about Dean is that he IS relentless, he will keep hammering Bush on his failings and the fact that, since his election, Bush has led this country down a very dark and stupid path.

Dean strikes me as an honest and fiery guy. He also strikes me as the kind of man who could and would sit down with you at a bar and talk about anything.

Anybody But Bush in 2004!

If not Dean, then Clark, if not Clark then Kucinich, if not Kucinich then Kerry. And so on. Bush must be defeated!

hmmm. when i saw him speak to a crowd of about 2-300 here in minneapolis live, i was very impressed with his passion - presence - and forceful speaking style as well as command of the issues - aren't you in spain anyway matteo? i (as well as many friends and associates) find dean to be angry and uninspiring - again... i like the guy and what he stands for - i just don't think he's the guy to beat beady eyes, republicons are would take this guy apart next fall.

methcokebong

hehehe... actually aside from aquavit and tequila ... i dont partake in recreational drugs :) i do listen to cypress hill though.

Alterman penned this when kerry was in the depths of his polling woes:

"“I think you may be the most qualified candidate in the race and perhaps also the one who best represents my own liberal values... "

Iowans and hopefully others are starting to get the messge as well.
