This really, really sucks On Saturday night after their Houston show, Engine Down's van and trailer were stolen from the parking lot of the Red Roof Inn on NW Freeway in Houston. All of their gear, 3 laptop computers, cameras, merchandise and personal items are all gone. If you want to help them out at all, click here.

Does anyone know if they had insurance on any of it?

If they want me to donate, they shouldn't abuse my browser window like that.

FYI, Firefox can stop the resizing of your window in the Options > Web Features > Advanced Javascript Options menu

They're a semi-local band for me (Central VA) that have earned a respectable following. Nice guys, too. Sucks about the theft.

That said, I'm not sure if this post will past muster for some...

Don't they have insurance?

I was saving up money to give to charity this fall but...

In my experience, insuring equipment is very expensive, and most car insurance won't cover the instruments in the vehicle.

In Engine Down's favor, they probably have enough fans to help them out. For many bands, getting your equipment can be the end of you, or at the very least put kinks in your plans for a while.

hey, there are a lot of nice guys in the world but that doesnt mean their output isnt vomit

Satapher, I totally agree with you. I don't think I would want to actually hang out for too long with many of my idols. But what's really sad is when total jerks make "vomit," too.

This happened to Sonic Youth some years back, too. I saw them recently and they were touring with a phalanx of customized guitars...do any of you know if they got their stuff back, or just rebuilt their arsenal?

haha, touche my friend... though i only arranged those words, they were originally written by god.

and i prefer vomitific ;)

the coolest (saddest) thing about Youth getting their gear stolen is that they had so many guitars dedicated to a unique tuning, that once they were gone, many songs became impossible to recreate.

Hey, I'm poor. Somebody want to give me some money, too? I can probably write a few bad songs in drop-D if that helps.

WTF? Can you explain that? Could none of the band members write (the tunings down somewhere) or something?

Yeah...and like those unique tuned guitar NEVER needed to be re-tuned...EVER! I call BS!
