Bush rewrites constitution

Here we go again... President Bush will renew a quest in his second term for a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage as essential to a ``hopeful and decent'' society, his top political aide said on Sunday.
This post was deleted for the following reason: reuters syndicated article about something we've talked to death? How about we wait until Bush actually says or does something instead of what an aide thinks he heard Bush say?
Whether you're for or against it, I can't see how "hopeful" is the right word for this.

When all the talk of an electoral mandate and political capital being readied for spending began, you had to assume this is what they were talking about. I don't think Republicans will get the votes, but they certainly will force alot of Democratic Senators to come out against the amendment - and thus for gay marriage in the eyes of spinsters - which will cost many of them their jobs. It will also replace abortion as the litmus issue for judicial appointments. It's like I've already seen it happen, its so innevitable.

Amendments that clarify granted rights and offer more rights are successful. Those amendments that take away rights die (Prohibition anyone?). Years from now, my grandchildren will look back at Bush as a dark mark against civil liberties. He will be used as an example of what we did wrong.
