Neiltupper, your post is it's own arguably fatuous thread comment. Congrats on the multiskilling.

Interesting critique of media coverage of the Pope's death here...

Hard to decide whether the media's ongoing fascination with the papal funeral and subsequent election is more amusing or bemusing. Especially for the BBC in a country that officially discriminates against Roman Catholics

Day Two: Still not Pope.

Whew! It's a good thing that I'm being kept up to date on the running tally of worthless pope news articles. All day I kept biting my nails and wondering: "What if I'm missing a worthless article about the future Pope?" Whew!

noise, noise, noise! What kind of mindless idiot would care who takes over positions of power and leadership? Jesus, how many divisions does the Pope have anyway? None!

just some fancy dressed guards... and they're European, which means they surrender, so mehh...!...

Is it wrong of me to hope for a black pope, if only for the sole reason of pissing off a lot of racists?

I loves answering me some rhetorical questions. Yeah, when the largest denomination of the largest religion in the world, representing in the vicinity of a BILLION adherents, appoints its supreme leader, yeah, it is news. No, I don't particularly care either, but it is news.

Saydur: not at all :-)

nanojath, but "no pope yet" isn't news. See, that's the point. If the article had said "There's a new pope!" people would be clamboring over one another to comment on it.

I agree completely. When the cardinals elect a new pope it will be news. Meanwhile . . .

Well I'm pleased that you've conceded the qualifier arguably. The post was a metacomment on the BBC article, surely appropriate for MetaFilter.

multiskilling? Er . . .
