Laura Triumphs Womens Rights. What a joke.
This post was deleted for the following reason: what a joke of a post
Thanks for posting this; there's no other way I would have found out about the remarks of the first lady of the United States.

How can the first lady talk about women's rights when she and her husband don't support a woman's right to choose what happens inside her body?
It's hypocritical, that's what it is.

Bush was making her maiden trip to the Middle East as first lady; the visit included meetings with Jordan's King Abdullah, Queen Rania and Arab youths.
of course the irony of talking about democratic progress to a hereditary monarch was probably completely lost on this simpleton.

I fail to see anywhere in the ME that the cause of women's rights has advanced since the Chimperor assumed his throne. Can anyone show substantive evidence?

Am I just getting even more paranoid or might this foretell a 2008 presidential contest between Laura and HIllary?

Islamic countries oppress women. You obviously find the topic boring, but women in Jordan may find it a bit more interesting.

If the choice involves killing their child -- whether the child was conceived 2 hours earlier or the child was conceived 35 years earlier -- that choice is immoral and should not be permitted in a civil society.

Because there are more rights than just abortion rights?
I'm not pro-Bush at all but Laura Bush talking up women's rights is a good thing even if she only means 9 out of 10 of the rights. That is still 9 more than I expected..

Laura faces protesters in Jerusalem
Dozens of protesters stood nearby, shouting, “Free Pollard now.” Jonathan Pollard is serving a life sentence in a U.S. prison for spying for Israel.
[Laura] was mobbed by protesters and local reporters, and Secret Service agents and guards had to physically hold back the crowd as she approached the wall.
She then went to the Dome of the Rock, a mosque on a hilltop compound known to Muslims as Haram as-Sharif and to Jews as Temple Mount. Before she entered the mosque, one heckler yelled, “How dare you come in here?” and “Why do you hassle our Muslims?”

Three things, bub:
1) "triumph" is an intransitive verb. In other words, you can't triumph something. You can champion it, which is what I assume you meant.
2) What does the word "womens" mean? Think it through.
3) This post, and some of the "yeah, man" responses, represents some of the laziest thinking around. Engaging the world at this very low level of thoughtfulness can't really be that engaging, can it?

The speech drew polite, although unenthusiastic, response.
Yeah. Something tells me the audience weren't exactly receptive to Mrs Bush's message.
