Well, we ought to be careful not to canonize our founding fathers -- they were only too human. I mentioned this in a previous comment (see comment on 'The War on Franklin'), and I've put a little more meat on the bone about his relations with ethnic Germans around Philadelphia here. Hope people will take it in the good-natured vein in which it is intended.
He had a lot of good points, he was exceptionally talented and he fought for some important causes. But he could also show a thoughtless intolerance at times.
Again, I could be biased.
