And so the latest "contagious media" deluge begins. Are we going to get a desperate "LOOK AT ME!" FPP for every one of these moronic things, or will some kind soul please take the time to do this again?
PS - video wouldn't play.

How does he get "bay-nor" out of that name? A bit of googling reveals that Korean has something that looks like a silent O, but only at the beginning of a word. I guess he sort of looks Korean.
Getting your name changed is not that big of a deal when the alternative is to say "It's pronounced BAY-NOR!" ten times a day for the rest of your life. He could get his name changed to "John OOIOO" and go by Mr. EYE.

Refresh my memory, here--is Boehner the guy with very little taint? Or does he have the regular amount of taint?

I hear Boehner has a larger than average taint, and he's exposed it a number of times on the House floor.

Boehner's landlord: A lobbyist.
"Rep. John Boehner, R-Ohio, who was elected House majority leader last week, is renting his Capitol Hill apartment from a veteran lobbyist whose clients have direct stakes in legislation Boehner has co-written and that he has overseen as chairman of the Education and the Workforce Committee.posted by ericb at 8:49 PM on February 7, 2006
The relationship between Boehner, John D. Milne and Milne's wife, Debra R. Anderson, underscores how intertwined senior lawmakers have become with the lobbyists paid to influence legislation. Boehner's primary residence is in West Chester, Ohio, but for $1,600 a month, he rents a two-bedroom basement apartment near the House office buildings on Capitol Hill owned by Milne, Boehner spokesman Don Seymour said Tuesday. Boehner's monthly rent appears to be similar to other rentals of two-bedroom English basement apartments close to the House side of the Capitol in Southeast, based on a review of apartment listings."
Reform, Washington Style
"Only in Washington could an old pro like Boehner, an eight-term congressman with close ties to Washington's K Street lobbying culture, be seen as the fresh face of reform. Boehner's ever-present George Hamilton tan gives him the look of a man forever coming back from vacation. He does get around: over the years, he has made the most of controversial rules allowing members to accept free trips to luxury retreats around the world. Since 2000, Boehner has taken more than $150,000 worth of junkets paid for by private interests—ranking him in the top 10 of all members of Congress."posted by ericb at 8:51 PM on February 7, 2006

Boehner actually lives in Wetherington, a gated-community well outside of the City of Cincinnati (think 'white flight'). His family is in politics and with their unfortunate German last name, almost every year those crazy kids of Cincinnati's suburbs deface the "ELECT BOEHNER" signs in various nefarious ways.
My favorite was the one where someone put a printed out "Ö" over the OE in his name.

In German, it would be pronounced Ber(h)ner, no?

I was assuming it was some German derivative. In German, when confronted by two vowels, the second one is pronounced in its long form. (From what I remember of my dalliance with German.)

I wonder what could have prompted such a rapid rise for Boehner. Will it soon come to a climax and leave him to retreat hastily? Time will tell.

Okay, I just asked my wife who is a native speaker. She says how you say it depends on your accent, but adds that "bay-ner" is a bit of a stretch. "oe" is basically the Anglicised form of "ö" as noted by vkxmai. The way she says it comes out something like "boo-ner" to my own Cincinnati-born ears.
