Vintage female nudes from the Jazz Age. Workers, avert thine eyes.

This post was deleted for the following reason: the flagging system decided, this post has to go.

Now, I don't claim to have gone through the nearly 7000 images in this gallery, but here are a few that caught my eye: + + + + + + + +.

Hey, how'd that get in there?! via.

This is a FPP in search of a deletion. Hopefully, that's what will happen soon.

the site's not allowing hotlinking directly to the images.

...in a startlingly graphic way.

Of course, because this obviously contains far less aesthetic sensibility and worth than this. Please don't trash the thread, there is a flagging system and MeTa. The Gods will decide.

A very particular form of "jazz".
Nice drop dgaicun.

I have nothing against porn and am not a prude. I just don't think that I should have to see in this forum, at 8am in the morning no less. You've ruined my breakfast.

I'm offended and others might be offended, particularly the women who participate in this forum. And there are also folks around here who are under 18.

There's a time and a place for everything. You obviously don't understand this. You think you are an iconoclast.

Maybe someday you will grow up. I'm not real hopeful, though. Congrats on being the village idiot.

WARNING! Links are now redirecting to straight-up porn.

I'm working on applying a Sepia Tone to the images on the second page.

Nice post!

Actually, bim, you don't have to see anything in any forum at any time. That's the nice thing about free will. So just dig around that turd in your cornflakes, you'll be OK.
posted by Eekacat at 5:30 AM on March 18, 2006

dgaicun, we're not opposed to your intended links (well, I'm not), but the site host is refusing to allow direct links to the images you want to highlight. Instead of classic nudes we're being given some lovely young ladies being dealt with in a very backwards manner.

Not that there's anything wrong with that sort of thing, except in some states, IANAL.

Trust me, trying to remove this would be good for your profile.
posted by NinjaPirate at 5:33 AM on March 18, 2006

bim, not so fast on the trigger there. the links were supposed to be porn for the timid/family/general audience, but the site disallowed remote linking and automatically redirected the links to porn for horny men. which you don't seem to like. wait a couple minutes and an administrator will clean up the broken links.

Hrm, public in-thread requests not to trash the thread, malformed links, broken hotlinks, and a commercial, for profit pr0n site as the only link.

Can I just take a dump right here on the floor or do I actually have to get up and go to the restroom? I can put on an elephant costume, if it helps.

Not that there's anything wrong with that sort of thing, except in some states, IANAL.

See bim. See bim's knee jerk. Jerk, bim's knee, jerk!

It's really interesting to see the way American eroticism has changed over the years - the second link (unintended as its destination was) really highlights the differences and similarities in the aesthetic.

So bim, if you have nothing against porn and you don't think you're a prude, why exactly has your breakfast been ruined by antique black and white photos of pretty nude ladies?

What did you think you were going to see when you clicked on a link that said "Vintage female nudes"?
posted by redteam at 5:39 AM on March 18, 2006

Hmm, the direct links are working fine in all my browsers, but if that's not the case with others, I apologize, and agree deletion of the post is probably in the site's best interest.

What knee jerk? I gave you a reason. Stop playing with your hoola hoop and read what I said.
posted by bim at 5:40 AM on March 18, 2006

bim, knee jerk because you made a rash response without realizing the modern-porn images were unintentional and will be fixed soon.

It's probably your cache, dgaicun.

The intended images are hardly breakfast-ruining, and I really can't imagine why they would be. Here I was imagining them framed and hanging in my kitchen as I finish my tea and scone.

Perhaps I too am an iconoclast.

good morning to you, too, dgaicun!

All the links worked for me as well dgaicun. No reason to delete this, very nice and interesting collection of photos. Thanks for posting this.

Why should I ever have assumed that explicit photos were a mistake and would soon be removed? Honestly.
posted by bim at 5:49 AM on March 18, 2006

the site's not allowing hotlinking directly to the images.
posted by freudianslipper at 8:05 AM EST on March 18 [!]

that's a clue, for starters, even if you didn't notice that the links were all to .jpg files and you instead saw a HTML page.
posted by rxrfrx at 5:50 AM on March 18, 2006

They're not explicit. They're artful nudes.
posted by Hildegarde at 5:51 AM on March 18, 2006

bim said: Stop playing with your hoola hoop and read what I said.

You have the wit of poop. Go back to bed.

To explicate myself a bit: While I do thoroughly enjoy art, nudity, and even porn (especially where those three overlap), and while the main link itself has an impressive collection of images, I think I'd prefer to see porn-like links on MeFi reserved for ones with a bit more meat on their bones. Some text, a backstory, something of more intellectual value then just the raw, faceless archives of a well known provider of outright smut, laden with ads no less.
posted by loquacious at 5:52 AM on March 18, 2006

Oh, and you can easily use the links if you fool the site into thinking you've clicked from within its borders, not from MeFi.

Can anyone offer any information about how this ancient porn industry worked? Like terpsichoria, I also find the stark difference in aesthetics (unintentionally) presented by the two links to be interesting.

These girls, were they more or less what was considered quite attractive back then or were they simply the only girls willing to do this kind of work?

If they weren't attractive, does the dynamic in yesterday's link apply here?
posted by redteam at 5:53 AM on March 18, 2006

rxrfrx -- it's a little early to be going on a treasure hunt for clues. And for all I know, someone was being facetious about not being able to hotlink to a site.

And the first link of vintage postcards was just fine. They were lovely. And this is one of the most beautiful scultures that I've ever seen.
posted by bim at 5:58 AM on March 18, 2006

The modern photos on the 404 page look even worse than usual when comparing it to the artistic vintage images.

Back in their day, porn wasn't just about wangs and orifices. It was *pretty!*

... and you had to walk 10 miles uphill in the snow barefoot to plug in your steam-powered computer to get the stuff...
posted by cmyk at 5:58 AM on March 18, 2006

Because, bim, if you've been around this community weblog much at all you'd know that people here don't generally link to explicit porn unless there's some best of the web reason for it. This isn't Fark, though there are times it tries. So mellow out.
