Different ways to look at the world

Worldmapper shows proportional maps of the world according to different metrics. Total population. Population in 2300. Net immigration. Container ports. Gas and coal imports. Machine exports. And many other maps.

I'm confused by the net immigration - is that by the proportion of all global immigration, or per capita in each country? Because I believe that Canada has a higher per capita immigration rate than the US but lower than Australia, but being much smaller in population, it obviously has a much lower proportion of all immigrants in the world.

you know that's really annoying ... the dupe search didn't show any results ... sorry, but i wouldn't have posted this if it had shown up on search

I was sure I has seen it -- it comes up on the tag for 'maps' and a search for 'worldmapper'...

Dupe search probable failed because of the slightly different URLs (no 'index.html' on the oldest double, and the other one links to the search reults)

True jb, I looked at the same map and got a little confused as well. Canada does have one of the highest per capita immigration rates, yet the map is small. I wonder if they used total volume of immigrants

I find it pretty disturbing that the United States exports damn near nothing compared to the rest of the world, except cereal and "intellectual property".

It's a good way to show just how skewed the USA is to the rest of the world when it comes to consumption patterns. If any sort of world-wide disaster happens, or some sort of economic catastrophe hits, might as well pucker up America, cuz you can't produce jack.
