National print editor calls a blog the "al-Jazeera of climate theory" and the blogger the "Imam"... in the times we are in right now for someone to compare a blog to al-Jazeera, coupled with calling the blogger the "Imam" is, well, there are many terms to typify what it is, and maybe it is best left to the metafilter community to decide. We aren't talking about a tiny community newspaper outlet here, we are talking about an editor at a very large national newspaper!. I'm sick and tired of such ignorance.

Well, duh. We can all be sure that brown people have fabricated global warming.

Because they sure stand to benefit from the vilification of the product they sell to us.

But, for the love of god, let's not vilify the consumer.

Never thought of it that way... um, was that sarcasm?

How can canada have a national paper when it isn't a real nation?
posted by delmoi at 12:28 AM on August 24, 2006

Nice... how's it not a nation, we have a flag and everything. But seriously, it doesn't matter the nation, stufff like this shouldn't fly anywhere.

Why "manipulation?" Am I naive to think that someone would knowingly juxtapose terror with the muslim faith... I can't fathom anyone who is not ignorant doing so.

This is going great!

jacob, I'm not sure I get your outrage here.
Are you upset because he insulted these scientists by calling them fundamentalist or (gasp!) federal civil servants?
Or are you upset because he appears to be likening fundamentalism (or even terror) to the Islamic faith?

I think jacob's just upset that he typed his real name in when he signed up instead of MissPrettybuns.

No seriously dude, I'm on your side. It sucks. But I don't really give a fuck what journalists think about climate change because they don't "get" science on the best of days, and it's better to ignore the anti-environmentalists and get on with the research in a neutral, non-pathetic-talking-point environment.

Meh. Terence Corcoran has been questioning the existence of climate change since the moment he heard of it (which I believe was shortly before the Flood). If this is merely ignorance, it is a particularly willful sort.

Also, delmoi has been questioning the existence of Canada since the moment he heard of it. If this is ignorance -- oh, I see that he's from Iowa. I hereby dub him the al-Jazeera of Geography and the Imam of Ignorance. And MissPrettybuns, for good measure.

This guy has misadverntently said that Global Warming is the facts. Al Jazeera reports on the Middle East better than any American paper bar the Christian Science Monitor.

Perhaps this guy is inadvertently saying that Global Warming is what is reported by people with good sources who understand the situation rather than by media afraid to challenge the authority of the US government.

Who would have given you better information about what was going to happen in Iraq? The Washington Times or Al Jazeera?

Speaking as the ayatolla of rock'n'rolla, I'm not sure I see the problem.

Yup, ingnorance is a pisser. Yet run-on sentences and lousy grammer really piss me off.

Personally, I think you should've used the spellcheck.

Wow, that really was a rhetorical home run though, you've got to admit. It hits all the right xenophobic buttons without betraying the slightest concern for logical consistency.

I'm sure Ann Coulter is proud of him.

Come on, the National Post isn't a real newspaper. Please.

Can I ask why you linked to a badly written blog post about Corcoran's piece rather than to the piece itself? Are you afraid to let us make up our own minds?

Labels help classify things for those who don't know any better. It's intentional and the National Post is happy to play along. Having said that, don't be such a Nanook of the North.

Nothing is best left to the metafilter community to decide.

I'm sick and tired of such ignorance.

I'm glad you added that -- I might have wondered how you really felt.
