The Magic City: Billings, Montana

Billings, Montana is Montana's largest city, located in an area rich in history and scenery. The Yellowstone River runs along the south edge of town. But bordering the north side of the city, the sandstone cliffs called the Rimrocks are a favorite destination of of climbers, hikers, and mountain bikers.

Yep, it's a beautiful place. I visited for a short time and then headed to Bozeman for some backpacking.
That aside: Why is this on Metafilter? Your post reads like a travel brochure.

Great Falls, Helena, Havre, Cut Bank, Miles City and even Butte demand equal promotion time.

Here, I'll finish the FPP for you.
Billing's most exciting shopping destinations are a Sears and a Shopping Mall, actually the largest in Montana. For nature lovers there is the Lake Elmo State Park and a short drive to Yellowstone Park. Billings also has its own 70-acre wildlife park.
Downtown Billings' attractions include the Yellowstone Art Museum, built on the grounds of the Yellowstone County Prison and incorporating much of the original prison as an exhibit, and Moss Mansion, a museum converted from a historic home.
While big-city folks might consider Billings a backwater town, you'd be lucky to live in a place where the community would stand together against hate crimes like the people of Billings.

well, as he's a graphic designer and "bureaucratic" living in Billings, maybe he's attempting to generate traffic to a site he created... or to fabulous Billings!

Yeah, maybe not the best MeFi FPP, but as a fellow Montanan, it's nice to see Big Sky Country getting some good publicity*!
And FWIW: in Montana, Billings is considered a metropolis. After living anywhere else in Montana, driving around in Billings can induce cries of "WTF is all this traffic?!"
* That is, publicity that does not include the words "freemen" or "militia" or "Unabomber."

mmoncur, that's a great story! Sometimes driving through the West I think to myself that I'm glad I'm white - Confederate flags only mean one thing up there - but that was heartening.

And... nope, I am a federal bureaucrat, not trying to drum up business for Billings or any site. (Um, despite my pitiful cries in the MeTa link above.) I moved here from Detroit, and have always found it interesting to be in a place with geography such as this.
And yeah, where the hell's Wulfgar! ? We are supposed to go gopher-plugging!

I had a good time in Montana c 1997. But preferred Missoula. Paradise Valley was aptly named too...

I spent an hour in Billings... all I remember is having the feeling that cars were constantly trying to crash into me.
The overlook though was cool... we went up that driving north. I feel for some of the homeowners just under the bluff... I bet they've had crap thrown down on their house over the years.

Billings, meh.
Kalispell/Whitefish/Flathead Lake/Big Mountain, now that's Montana. I was set to move to Whitefish when I got a new job back East that I couldn't turn down. I still regret it from time to time.
