you'd almost sympathize with chomsky, wouldn't you, when amid a sea of freedom of information everybody knows the nfl star turned national hero for walking into friendly fire, but basically no-one has ever heard about the 600,000+ iraqis who died violently since the start of the war. putting this into perspective, that represents 2.5% of the country's population. going by the best available estimate, that would be 7.5 million us citizens. that's the metropolitan areas of houston and denver combined. i'm off to see isfahan before anyone finds weapons of mass distraction there too. way to go, america.

I wouldn't mind giving up Houston and Denver.

Chomsky and John Zerzan have feuded for years. But Chomsky is no anarchist, he's a sad little bitch.

This reminds me of that Warren Zevon song, "Things to do in Denver when you're using ridiculous hyperbole that you think is helping to make your point but really just turns people off, even the ones that agree with you."

The pictures of Isfahan are lovely and could have been the backbone of an excellent post, had the original poster chose to provide additional background on the place instead of harping about stuff the Metafilter community already pretty much agrees about.

To be fair, Bush did destroy New Orleans to make things equal. And it does have a metropolitan population of greater than a million.
