Artificial reefer madness.

Who would have thought dumping used tires into the ocean would turn out badly? The Fort Lauderdale tire reef project is a spectacular failure. Non-tired based reefs seem to be doing well. We'll have to find new ways to dispose of used tires.

"The dumping of nearly 2 million tires began in 1972 with much fanfare by a group called Broward Artificial Reef Inc., which had the approval of the Army Corps of Engineers, support from Goodyear..."

No mention of Goodyear's part in the cleanup effort. I'd like to know more about what their support of the project entailed.
