Blackwater on your back

Blackwater on your back Rob Walker asks how Blackwater could come up with such a sinister-sounding name. His answer? Cool merch.

This post was deleted for the following reason: A little "What's The Deal With 'Blackwater'" blog post and a link to a half-broken t-shirt shop? This really isn't great post material. -- cortex

Funny that they call it a "proshop" when they're clearly a bunch of heckuva-job-Brownie-level amateurs.

It does have a better ring than Pinkjuice or Magentasoda.

At least with these shirts, I can have yet another simple and expedient way to receive evidence that someone as a useless asshole.

I am definitely buying that polo shirt though.

Is it just me or is this not a very well put together post? Your second link is borked, and the first link is kind of lacking substantial content...

Ah, third time is the charm. Second link works now.

It was probably from a Doobie Brothers song, wasn't it?

"I would rather listen to Fran Drescher for eight hours than have to listen to Michael McDonald. Nothing against him, but if I hear 'Yah Mo B There' one more time, I'm going to 'yah mo burn' this place to the ground!"

The fact that the first link autoscrolls you to an empty reply box, now that's class.

That pawprint logo might look better on each side of a high collar.

You know who else looked great in Hugo Boss?

The bear paw with the crosshairs on it will forever be known as "The Douche Signal".

I mean the author of the blog (I guess that would be Rob Walker?) is just kind of navel-gazing about the name of Blackwater... and then at the end he half-heartedly concedes, rather anecdotally, that the name contributes to some cool looking merchandise.

...

And?

The real funny part is that when downrange, 'blackwater' also refers to night soil. Grey water is water from showers and sinks. Potable water is not refered to as white water.

At least with these shirts, I can have yet another simple and expedient way to receive evidence that someone as a useless asshole.

That's just silly. I mean, what's next, judging people based on their user name?

I've always assumed 'blackwater' was a reference to an effect of the periodic recrudesence of the malaria parasite on those chronically infected: it makes piss black.

I read somewhere some time ago that blackwater was a point of pride among old Africa hands (aka mercenaries of the European empires-- plus former members of the Rhodesian and South African armies, of course).

Pepsi-Blackwater.

Actually psmealey, Black Water is pre-Michael McDonald Doobie Brothers, when Tom Johnston was the lead singer (pre-1976).

As for Blackwater, it could also be another name for oil.
