Rhino realeases the Metal box.
Heavy Metal now has a history long enough to be immortalized by the boxsetters over in California. Like all such attempts to codify a wide ranging movement, this will be debated endlessly by fans. My own take? It's nice to see NWOBHM outfits like Girlschool, Raven and Saxon get props. But the omission of Blue Oyster Cult and Mountain from the 'founders' section is inexcusable.
and oh yeah \m/!

This post was deleted for the following reason: two rhino box set posts in two days is probably one too many. -- jessamyn
Two Rhino records posts in two days seems like a lot.
That said, METAL DUDE!

It seems weird to me for "Whiplash" to be back-to-back with "Rock You Like a Hurricane."
Megadeth, incidentally, is the most underrated band of the 1990s.

Yes, and this was already mentioned in the previous post.
Flagged as a double.
Also, since when was wussy glam cock-rock ever metal? Scorpions & jebus-lurvin Stryper, I'm looking at YOU!

If you're going to include Rose Tattoo, you'd better have some AC/DC to go with it.
Angry Anderson would have made an excellent replacement for Bon; I heard him do a version of Highway to Hell a while back that was absolutely ball-tearing.

The early Scorpions stuff is really great, like from the early '70s. They did veer into pretty formulaic stuff in the late '70s and onward, unfortunately.

Really? Well, not sure about Zeppelin. They are more hard rock with some folky influences. They didn't go fully into metal, though they came close at times. Sabbath with Ozzy, though - those guys pretty much started it all. You can't have a box set like this without them.

Led Zep is notoriously loathe about liscenscing to this kind of stuff. I'm kind of surprised at the omissions of Grand Funk and Budgie, too.

They were better before Peter Gabriel left.

2nd Megadeth being underrated.
This looks like a whole lotta ‘B’ side though.
