The Monarch & Dr. Girlfriend’s "Fairytale Of New York"

The Monarch & Dr. Girlfriend’s "Fairytale Of New York." The annual Venture Bros. Christmas song. (Previously)
This post was deleted for the following reason: Poster's Request -- Brandon Blatcher
Ted Leo (sans Pharmacists) also did a nice solo, acoustic, humorously self-censored version of "Fairytale of New York" at the end of last night's The Best Show on WFMU.
But nothing beats the original with Kirsty and Shane. It always a sad reminder at this time of year of how Kirsty's life was so needlessly cut short by some idiot in a speedboat, just 7 days before Christmas.

Frightening, but I seriously think Shane will get a kick out of this.

Oddly enough, Kirsty isn't the only female singer of a well known 80s Christmas song to die in the month of December. Patty Donahue of the Waitresses, probably best remembered for "Christmas Wrapping" and the theme song for Square Pegs and "I Know What Boys Like" died on December 9th, 1996.

Oh man, thank you for this so much! It's scary how natural their voices are for this.

There are only 12 months, after all. I mean, it's not like the shocking statistic that 40% of all sickdays are taken on Mondays or Fridays...

yeah, but there's maybe only a few dozen Christmas songs from the 80s that were popular enough to still be in heavy rotation at Christmas time now, and far fewer still that have a female lead that has died young. If you can find me a dozen or so others that died during different months, than yeah, I'd say it's not all interesting.

Season Three is scheduled for June of 2008, according to wikipedia... not exactly official and you never know if everything is still on schedule or not... can't come soon enough for me.

June? I was SURE it was January. Ah well. Maybe AS had to rework their schedule to fit in more award-losing dross like Xavier.

Speaking of air dates, some bad news: we're probably not going to premier the third season until June now. I don't have an official date yet, but that's the latest word from Atlanta.Check out the blog -- there are some great production stills and goodies there from Season 3.

Jesus, Colbert needs to hire some new people:
GRINCH!...
One sour note from the past month (aside from my car getting hit yet again) is that Mr. Stephen Colbert has decided not to reprise his role as Professor Impossible this season, for reasons which probably have something to do with him being all super-famous, super-busy, and no longer in need of a few hundred bucks here and there. We figured this would happen eventually, considering his monumental success in the years since our first season, but we held out hope that the WGA strike would leave him with enough bored free time on his hands that he'd have a go at it. But after getting shuffled around from his assistant to his assistant's assistant to his agent to his manager, one of them finally shot us an email saying: "Stephen has neither the time nor the interest in participating in your project."
If that's an accurate quote, that person needs their head smacked. Preferably by Stephen.

Three clicks in and still no video. These guys need a primer on how not to discourage people from viewing their content.

Why no Baron or Star Wars?!?!
Christ, this is the best Xmas present I got! I've been fighting to get my friends to watch TVB (National Kato, you listening?!). It's the best thing on TV along with Lost and BSG. XQUZYPHYR, you are now my best friend. Thank you.

No Baron because from what I understand, they feel they've run as far with the character as they can. At least for the time being.
I'm hoping no Star Wars because that shit got played the fuck out this year.
Good on Hammer and Publick for realizing when they need to teak a break from certain things before they get run into the ground and not funny anymore. More animated series would benefit from that lesson.

I had gotten the impression that the Baron wasn't consciously excluded, but they had so much else to focus on they simply didn't get around to it. And -everyone- does Star Wars references.

How very funny that they switched gender roles for the song. Doctor Girlfriend's voice is much closer to Shane McGowan's.
