Controversy over alleged subliminal message in campaign ad
March 2, 2008 3:39 PM Subscribe
Some are saying Hillary Clinton's campaign ad contains a subliminal racist message. Or is it pro-Jewish? Or much ado about nothing? Is Huckabee subliminally attracting Christians? Bush was accused of planting a subliminal message in his 2000 campaign ad, but denied it. A study suggests subliminal messages in campaign ads work [PDF]. Science Sensei at HowStuffWorks discusses subliminal political messages [video].
This post was deleted for the following reason: not really great for metafilter - there are tons of political blogs to go OMG CLINTON on regarding campaign controversy manufactured or non. -- jessamyn
Subliminal pajamas?
I'd put on my tinfoil hat but I'm laughing too hard.

If Hillary wins, do we all get that phone number? 3 am and she's still going strong!

Who are the "some"? Is anyone besides Ann Althouse making this assertion? One dumb blog post plus rebuttals by a few other blogs does not make for much of a "controversy."

This is a shocking outrage! Who would have thought that letters can be combined to form the parts of different words! A Congressional hearing on this alarming linguistic terrorism is needed forthwith!

I'm having a hard time resolving the fact that Huckabee explicitly and publicly says things like "we have to get the Constitution in line with the Word of the Living God" with the idea that he's subliminally attracting Christians.

Did you know that "Hillary Clinton" can be rearranged to spell "All In Horny Clit?"
The controversy deepens...

It'll be really sad for President Obama when he calls the UN and they decide to just let the machine get it.

Clinton's so desperate now that she's about to leak shocking evidence that Obama did, in fact, eat fried chicken on three occasions in the past two years. McCain will follow up with news that Obama is a not incompetent dancer.

Im pretty sure the pajamas say "good night". The word "Goo" can be seen right about the "Nig". Its all hogwash unless Clinton is trying to label him as Goo also

I don't even see "NIG" written there. I see an "N", an "I" and then a cresent shape that could be a part of a "G", but could just as eaily be an "C", "O" or "Q". There are some "G"s floating above it, but that's not the same as being a part of the word.

The Hillary ad kind of worked on me -- I immediately got an uneasy feeling about my Network Interface Card. And if we accept this theory of subliminal letter juxtaposition, just what is being offered by Ann Althouse?

This manufactured "controversy", which the FPP-er is guilty of helping to manufacture, is just plain, flat-out stupid. One dumb blog post and a few responses. This is not worthy of Metafilter; if we're going to have posts about the election, make them good ones. Flagged.

Yep. Batshitinsane. And also further proof that the election process in the US is far, far too long-winded and pointlessly drawn out, and so people have to make up banal, pointless shit like this to keep themselves at the front of the 'news' train.
Geez. Here's a hint, america: Invite candidates. Give them three-six months tops to present their case. Vote. Winner gets to be President. Job done. The millions upon millions of dollars spent so this photo-opp posturing driven by 'campaign marketing' idiots can conjur up a media presence that favours them is money wasted. If you reduced the time available for driving around and having 'media opportunities' they may actually focus on the issues involved in doing the job, rather than all the surrounding crap.

Ever read something so stupid it literally makes you want to cry? I'll second aspo that the "batshitinsane" tag is appropriate, but I think a "dumbshitinsane" tag might be better.

Yes, another subtle hint is the line "what really matters is the celebration of the birth of Christ."
