They sure don't make 'em like they used to.

This post was deleted for the following reason: these are two really meh ads from the 50s/60s one of which is "arguably racist" and one of which is sexist. An interesting topic which could maybe show promise with more effort or some sort of context. As it is, what is there to say? -- jessamyn

Or do they?

and then there were the winston ads mocking those boring longhair intellectuals who kept pointing out it should be "as a cigarette should" instead of "like a cigarette should".

People used to smoke? I'm shocked. You know, I bet when they sent their armies to knock over tiny countries in far away places, they let their soldiers smoke indoors. I'm certainly glad things are so much better now, second hand smoke is a killer.

I agree with The Card Cheat, they still make 'em like the used to. Asian stereotypes are deeply ingrained in Western culture. In the case of this ad, it's the stereotype that Chinese people talk in funny, gentle voices, walk in funny mincing steps, and have exaggerated respect for "ancient" wisdom, which they perpetually quote. Pernicious or harmless, who knows?

The Salesgenie ads? Written by the CEO, Vin Gupta. The panda ad has been pulled, however.
