Cat-scan.com Cat-Scan.com is one of the strangest sites I've seen in some time. I have no idea how these people got their cats wedged into their scanners, or why.
I just came back from my friend's belly dancing recital and I couldn't believe nobody had made the birthday post yet....

I've been reading Metafilter fairly regularly for the past 3.5 years - I have to say - this website, probably more than anything, has changed the way I use the internet. I remember being a kid, using IRC to meet people - that was fun. I remember the first time I emailed a complete stranger on the other side of the planet (Australia) and they emailed me back - mind blowing. I remember the very first time I beat someone at Starcraft (I was a high school senior) and it was a completely different kind of sensation, but still fun. But in retrospect, I think Metafilter has done more to connect me to like-minded people around the world than anything else... Someone here once described the internet as a mental honeypot - something we can dip into that doesn't really nourish our minds to any great degree but certainly gives the illusion of intellectual accomplishment - if this is the case, then I believe metafilter is my preferred honey-dipper, with which I siphon the best bits of the internet and rapidly consume them, somehow wasting half a day in the process.
Anyway, I love you metafilter. Happy Birthday.

I have never attempted to scan a cat. I wouldn't even know where to start. In fact, I don't think I agree with it.

In honor of MeFi's birfday I will now proceed to spend 8 hours in an airport waiting lounge.

Here is a picture of a feline being imaged in the first veterinary Computed Tomography scanner on Cape Cod. That's right, a cat CAT scan! Here's the hardware it runs on, BTW (don't you lurve the keyboard integrated into the desk?)

I fail to see how something that is inanimate, such as a website - which is essentially just a url and a bunch of code - can have a "birthday." Birth is one of those things that is reserved for living creatures (and in the very limited colloquial instance of the immediate genesis of ethereal constructs such as stars and galaxies). Shall you tell me that my desklamp has a so-called "birthday" as well?
If we were celebrating, say, mathowie's birthday, then I might understand the joy spread throughout this thread. Is there some humor in this that I am missing? For if such is the case, then certainly, I have no sense of humor.
