Art For Obama

This post was deleted for the following reason: I know this must have taken a lot of work to put together, but political fundraisery stuff is not a great fit for the front page, and it sounds like you may have ended up with a more-is-less effect with the exhaustive list of artists besides. -- cortex

Might just be my dumb luck, but the first pic I clicked on at random was a woman wearing nothing but ruffled underwear bent over a chair, and the second appeared to be a portrait of a real doll.
The rest are far more standard fare, but I can just see those two running on Fox News being presented as though the campaign had selected them.

So how exactly does this work, given that the contribution limit is $2300? Do the artists give $2300 worth of art, and then someone can pay up to $4600 for it?

That has to be one of the most soullous collection of artwork I have ever seen, and I dig the weird avant guard stuff other people bitch about...

"Obama financed by sick serial killer/terrorist art!"

And that was the first click... and yeah I love modern art too

Wait a minute, there's a political fundraiser for a politician?! Metafilter, you truly are the best of the web! God bless you!

Interesting. My friend and I had a similar idea, but instead of art, blowjobs (receiving end). For every blowjob provided, we'll donate $100 to his campaign. Win/win, right?

This is kinda like when I pick up the occasional book and it's so horrible it's inspiring, in an "Hey, I could do better than this!" kinda way.

otoh, there were a few I liked, but the wheat/chaff ratio is way off, here.

I was going to make an incredibly original and hilarious Pepsi Blue State joke, but I made at least one in the past week already. In the context of this post - heck, in the context of the site linked to - the art is notable solely because buying it will benefit Obama.

This is basically spam.

Hmm, let me amend that slightly. I had for whatever reason avoided the stuff posted previously. Good choices there. I like that stuff in significantly higher proportion.

Yeah, what Alvy said (excepting the stuff that was notable without the gimmick). If I were a bland photographer looking to sell my stuff, I'd jump on a promo like this, too.

I thought this was going to be an endorsement from Art Garfunkel. Or Art Donovan. But it's worse.

Well, I'm no art critic, just a normal dude. But I wouldn't hang too many of those in *my* house. Good cause, good idea...but (for the most part) shitty art.

I'm an Obama supporter, and I wasn't even planning to click on any of those. This is NOT the place to tout political fund raisers, for EITHER side. And, after reading the responses, I'm glad I didn't waste my time...

This isn't content, this is advertising.

oops... in reading my post I think I came across harsher than intended.... sorry..
I someone wants to delete that, it would be fine with me...

I must be completely out of touch. Does nobody paint or sculpt anymore? Are people seriously selling inkjet prints for thousands of dollars?
