What's really behind the current decline in gas prices?

Is it a ploy by big oil to drive down prices so that there will be less motivation to work towards alternative energy sources, or is it because we have reduced our oil useage due to the high prices?

Huh. I thought this would be a more complicated issue requiring more study. Shouldn't we at least shill it though the Amazon Link so the OverLords of MeFi get their referrer nickel?

On a serious note, I spent 8 months working in state government oversight of energy performance contracting. _______ (fill in the blank) has an ESCO (Energy Service Company) offshoot called _______ Energy Solutions.
Ugh.
They were like the new Joker, tempting Energy Efficiency-Batman to stop the statewide carnage of unrealized savings and problematic engineering. I'm being unfair to a few very good people from that outfit, but the organization as a whole was scary, especially to the state program who's continuance rests on a good track record of overseen projects. Forget greenwashing, this was green sabotage.
This FPP, though... yeah, weak sauce.
